{"id":1567,"date":"2010-01-21T22:25:45","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T04:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1567"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:56:28","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T20:56:28","slug":"all-c-u-is-high-on-chemicals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1567","title":{"rendered":"All C-U is high on CHEMICALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Well, in our humble opinion, all of <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> <em>should <\/em>be tweaked over <strong>CHEMICALS<\/strong>, the brand-new music video for the same-named <strong>Elsinore <\/strong>song appearing on <strong><em>The Chemicals<\/em><\/strong> EP, which bows at the end of this month. Lo-fi go-to team <strong>Matt HarsH<\/strong> and <strong>Sam Ambler<\/strong> assembled the visuals, reaching back farther in time for their cue than with the duo\u2019s <em>noir <\/em>flavored treatment of \u201c<strong>The Beat Was Burnt<\/strong>\u201d by <strong>Megan Johns<\/strong>. Looks like the gang had more than a little fun emulating the one-reel comedies of the Teens and Twenties:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"450\" height=\"364\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ZBjHdMJdwCI&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"450\" height=\"364\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ZBjHdMJdwCI&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Ryan Groff<\/strong>, he of Elsinore\u2019s soaring lead vocals, is barely recognizable as the sophisticate-about-town who is cursed by the Villainesse (<strong>Mindy Manolakes<\/strong>) after he refuses to spare a sister some change. She spends the rest of the running time attempting to poison our good fellow with laboratory concoctions entrusted to her three bumbling Henchmen (<strong>Chris Eitel, Cole Rabenort, Mark Woolwine<\/strong>) who manage to screw up the special delivery every time. At the climactic pie-eatin\u2019 contest held in leafy environs looking suspiciously like the <strong>Mike \u2018n Molly\u2019s<\/strong> beer garden, the Villainesse herself shows up to off our unwitting hero \u2013 or will his best gal (<strong>Lindsey Markel<\/strong>) save the day?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CHEMICALS<\/strong> also features <strong>Josh Nee, Mike Prosise<\/strong>, and <strong>Brittany Pyle<\/strong> (who created the scenario with HarsH and Groff) as the good citizens bearing the humorous brunt of the misplaced trickery, along with pit stops at the <strong>Virginia Theater<\/strong> and the <strong>Blind Pig<\/strong>. Feel free to pat everyone on the back during the EP release show <strong>Saturday, January 30, 8:45 p.m.<\/strong>, at <strong>The Highdive, 51 E. Main St.<\/strong>, downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong>, although pies to the face will probably not rate very well that night.
