Thank you for your readership, CUvians and Agents!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>IMAGERY DU C-U | Picturing Our Scene on the Screen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our <strong>Almanac<\/strong> repeat for the week reminds us the movies of <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond are only as viable as they are available. You can easily imagine that <strong>Ye Ed<\/strong> has cobbled together a collection of C-U movie ephemera over the last 30 years that includes a set of videos, including official releases that have already been out of print for some time. In the near future, given how far away <strong>MFHQ Deux<\/strong> is from our fair Twin Cities, we\u2019ll figure out how to make it all available for the historians du C-U to access once we\u2019re done with this grand Confidential project. In the meantime, we can offer snippets that will most likely be new to you. We recently retrieved all our old <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> files from the <strong>MFHQ Cach\u00e9<\/strong> that is still hidden within <strong>Champaign County<\/strong> and, on topic to share for today, we have from the stash a cover design that was created for VHS copies of <a title=\"\u2018Dogs in Quicksand\u2019 :: \u2018Mike Trippiedi \u2013 writer of things\u2019 @ Blogger\" href=\"https:\/\/miketrippiedi.blogspot.com\/2023\/03\/dogs-in-quicksand.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Mike Trippiedi<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u2019s dark comedy, <strong>DOGS IN QUICKSAND<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, which made its local public debut a quarter-century ago in 1999 at the former <strong>New Art Theater<\/strong> in downtown Champaign as part of the <strong>Freaky Film Festival<\/strong>. We had a color printout of the art, most likely given to us by Trippiedi himself, but the tape and the movie themselves are rare commodities. Good luck in finding it, folks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DOGS IN QUICKSAND (Shut Up &amp; Do It Productions)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cublog_calendarBNR290_dogsvhs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"598\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CONFIDENTIAL ALMANAC | Dates in Film Culture History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>15 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 <em>Tuesday, June 30, 2009:<\/em> <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong>-based distributor <strong>Indie-Pictures<\/strong> releases the Midwest horror drama <strong>THE GARBAGE MAN<\/strong> on DVD, rescuing it from the well of lost motion pictures that were produced in the wake of the American \u201cindependent boom\u201d of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Originally filmed during the summer of 1993 in various local haunts and the dense student housing area to the west of the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> campus in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>, this micro-budget endeavor relies on 16-millimeter grain, nonlinear cuts, tonal soundscapes, and the fa\u00e7ade of everyday normality to describe the life of a trash collector by day and serial killer by night as played by <strong>James Meredith<\/strong>. Director <strong>Hart D. Fisher<\/strong> amassed the tools and skills to shape <strong>THE GARBAGE MAN<\/strong> into releasable form while he gravitated from self-publishing under his <strong>Boneyard Press<\/strong> imprint in <strong>Illinois<\/strong> to learning commercial video production in <strong>California<\/strong>, <a title=\"\u2018[Interview] Hart D. Fisher Goes Off About My Chemical Romance\u2019s Gerard Way, Kickstarter, and Fangoria\u2019 by BigJ :: Bloody-Disgusting\" href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/news\/3277602\/interview-hart-d-fisher-goes-off-about-my-chemical-romances-gerard-way-kickstarter-and-fangoria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">telling the horror culture website <strong>Bloody-Disgusting<\/strong> in 2014<\/span><\/a> that a sneak preview of <strong>THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT<\/strong> reignited his fire to finish it. Indie-Pictures did not provide many favors to Fisher or <strong>THE GARBAGE MAN<\/strong> apart from producing the disc itself; never listing or promoting the product on its website, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Indie-Pictures @ Typepad\" href=\"https:\/\/indiepictures.typepad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weblog<\/a><\/span>, or <a title=\"Todd Taylor (former Indie-Pictures CEO) @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCZxtesvdQRJcLHXRhiLbWIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">YouTube<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> account<\/span><\/a>, the company apparently went defunct a short while after the street date.
