Thank you for your readership, CUvians and Agents!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>IMAGERY DU C-U | Picturing Our Screens in the Scene<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This week, we have just cause to break out one more vintage <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Daily Illini<\/span><\/strong> theater advertisement in honor of the late actress and producer, <strong>Shelley Duvall<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Shelley Duvall, star of \u2018The Shining\u2019 and \u2018Nashville,\u2019 dies at 75\u2019 by Jake Coyle :: The Associated Press\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/shelley-duvall-dead-obit-2827626ebde75ac3bdfa163668e9c99c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who passed on <strong>July 11<\/strong> at age 75<\/a><\/span> after a post-career life spent far, far away from the spotlight and excesses of <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> and on her own modest terms. One of your humble editor\u2019s all-time favorite experiences at <strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong> was a late-night screening of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"3 WOMEN :: The Criterion Collection\" href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion.com\/films\/712-3-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the hard-to-describe <strong>Robert Altman<\/strong> feature <strong>3 WOMEN<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, which paired up Duvall with <strong>Sissy Spacek<\/strong> and <strong>Janice Rule<\/strong> to bizarre and mesmerizing effect. Despite <strong>Ye Ed<\/strong>\u2019s absence from \u201c<strong>Ebertfest<\/strong>\u201d for the last decade due to personal and financial (and, now, long-distance) reasons, he feels it has been good choice-making and overall presentation at the annual event that has made it a <strong>Virginia Theatre<\/strong> staple. Nothing of its prominence but <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Daily Illini, August 26, 1977 :: Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections, University Library, UIUC\" href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19770826-01&amp;e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN----------\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plenty of cinema in variety and breadth could be had in the C-U community and on the UIUC campus<\/a><\/span> on <strong>Friday, August 26, 1977<\/strong>, when <strong>3 WOMEN<\/strong> began a first-run engagement at the massive<strong> Thunderbird Theatre<\/strong> across town in <strong>Urbana<\/strong>; the promotion for this and <strong>Gregory Peck<\/strong> in <strong>MACARTHUR<\/strong> at the<strong> Rialto Theatre<\/strong> took up two-fifths of an entire page in that day\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DI<\/span>. You will hardly see dominating movie ads like this anymore except maybe in the weekend sections of big city print papers like the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New York Times<\/span><\/strong>. By sheer coincidence, the boutique label <strong>Vinegar Syndrome<\/strong> launched pre-orders just before her death for a UHD issue of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"THIEVES LIKE US :: Cin\u00e9matographie\/Vinegar Syndrome\" href=\"https:\/\/vinegarsyndrome.com\/collections\/frontpage\/products\/thieves-like-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a previous Altman and Duvall collaboration, <strong>THIEVES LIKE US<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, a Southern tale of robbery and romance set during the <strong>Depression<\/strong> that also stars <strong>Keith Carradine, John Schuck<\/strong>, and <strong>Bert Remsen<\/strong>. One of the many enduring mysteries of film, of course, is in the myriad ways it preserves the expressive powers of storytelling talent, including that of the singular Duvall. Producers <strong>Nick Bird<\/strong> and <strong>Amy Heppe<\/strong> are helping to utilize the extensive farmlands around the childhood home of writer\/director <strong>Ryan E. Heppe<\/strong> to stage a scene wherein Eighties teenagers Glen (<strong>Brian M. Jones<\/strong>) and Lucy (<strong>Tatiana Javorsky<\/strong>) have <a title=\"Casting underway for feature films :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=12692\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">a late-night tryst that is cut short by a living scarecrow (<strong>Lucas Heppe<\/strong>)<\/span><\/a>. Moonlighting technicians from <strong>WILL-TV<\/strong>, where Heppe worked briefly before moving to <strong>California<\/strong>, make up the crew along with craftspeople from the <strong>Chicago<\/strong> area.
