On the afternoon of March 16<\/strong>, the McAninch Art Center<\/span><\/strong> at the College of DuPage<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in west suburban Glen Ellyn<\/strong> will play host to \u201cJohn Waters: A Live Director\u2019s Screening & Commentary of Hairspray,<\/strong>\u201d at which the Baltimore<\/strong> legend will kvetch lovingly about his sweet 1988 musical comedy. A week later on March 22<\/strong> at the Peoria Civic Center<\/span><\/strong> in Peoria<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, fans can drop plenty of peanuts to enjoy \u201cThe Princess Bride: An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes<\/strong>\u201d and join the veteran actor, who played \u201cWestley\u201d in Rob Reiner<\/strong>\u2019s arch and funny 1987 skewering of fantasy and swashbuckling tropes, in the moment. And a year from now on October 10<\/strong>, the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts<\/strong> in downtown Bloomington<\/strong><\/span><\/a> will ask their patrons to vote for \u201cNapoleon Dynamite Live<\/strong>,\u201d a screening that will feature cast members Jon Heder<\/strong> (\u201cNapoleon\u201d), Jon Gries<\/strong> (\u201cUncle Rico\u201d), and Efren Ramirez<\/strong> (\u201cPedro\u201d) riffing on their 2004 surprise hit. We guess this is a thing, now? Waters has made special event appearances over the years, and we\u2019re sure they\u2019ve been totally worth it, while the \u201cNapoleon\u201d gang recently brought their three-man jam to the Egyptian Theatre<\/strong> up north in DeKalb<\/strong> over the summer, so it isn\u2019t new for them. We weren\u2019t kidding about the peanuts, either. It will cost the following to attend: $62-$72 for HAIRSPRAY<\/strong> and Waters, $24-$49 for NAPOLEON DYNAMITE<\/strong> and Team Pedro, and $29-$89 on up to a $159 VIP option for THE PRINCESS BRIDE<\/strong> and Elwes. If the cost added to dinner, travel, and possible lodging are worth it to you, have at it.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n IMAGERY DU C-U | Picturing Our Scene on the Screen<\/strong><\/p>\n We turn from the nostalgia for cult classics that still<\/em> received a boost from Hollywood<\/strong> and made $80 million combined at the US box office to the here-and-now of two local indies stretching their legs as best they can and a surprise live performance the gorehounds will lap up. First, John Isberg<\/strong>\u2019s FINAL SUMMER<\/strong> will be screened again at Day of the Dead Chicago<\/strong>, taking place this weekend at the Crown Plaza O\u2019Hare<\/strong> in Rosemont<\/strong>, during the film festival portion on November 23<\/strong> at 4 p.m.<\/strong> with costar Bishop Stevens<\/strong> in attendance. Then, Ash Hamilton<\/strong> and company\u2019s F\u2019D: TALES FROM THE END TIMES<\/strong> will be given its actual, for-real, red-carpet premiere at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> on Saturday at the Illinois Theater<\/strong> of Jacksonville<\/strong>, a town where some of the filming took place for the sci-fi\/horror anthology. And finally, nothing says Xmas quite like Claudio Simonetti\u2019s Goblin<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, a modern iteration of the Italian prog-goth outfit that famously composed the soundtracks for numerous horror and giallo<\/em> films by the likes of Dario Argento, Michele Soavi, Luigi Cozzi<\/strong>, and George A. Romero<\/strong>; they will play their last North American \u201cUltimate Anthology<\/strong>\u201d gig of the year on Saturday, December 14<\/strong>, at the Canopy Club<\/strong> in Urbana<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, of all places. The tour name is due to the show being a pastiche of Goblin\u2019s screen work and other compositions recorded over their career.
