(Has it <em>already<\/em> been a few years?) The merchandise at this place will appeal greatly to those dearest listeners who are vinyl inclined, undeterred by obscure and overseas labels, and willing to dig. For those less endeared to the thrill of the hunt, names and faces of many well-known artists from across the expanse of twentieth century studio recording will leap out at you from all corners of the five thousand square foot floor. Since this <em>is<\/em> a movie blog, we are going to focus on the obvious today and show you a little of what might lie in wait for you that is in our wheelhouse. Read on!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Horizons Music (Artwork: courtesy Horizons Music)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cublog_calendarBNR326_horizonA_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"146\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Much of the CD catalog at Horizons is tucked away in slim cardboard containers stacked on the shelves that line the outer walls. A smattering of random selections can be found on the tables in between the LPs, like this off-brand collection. Who knows how \u201coriginal\u201d the recordings on this might be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"A sample of merchandise to be found at Horizons Music. They\u2019re certainly not the bread and butter of a merchant like Horizons. Next to a wooden box filled with <strong>Beatles<\/strong> import LPs is this stack. Tempting, but these $5 DVDs are in the PAL format.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"A sample of merchandise to be found at Horizons Music. Stored along the inner wall, they\u2019re filled with VHS. I\u2019ll attempt to squeeze back there during my next visit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"A sample of merchandise to be found at Horizons Music. (Photo: Jason Pankoke)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cublog_calendarBNR327_horizonB_vhs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While I saw very few movie soundtrack CDs \u2013 one of them happened to be for the 1994 remake of <strong>LASSIE<\/strong>, one of the last films to play the <strong>Urbana Cinemas<\/strong> (<strong>Princess Theatre<\/strong>) in downtown <strong>Urbana<\/strong> before it closed down at <strong>Thanksgiving<\/strong> time that year \u2013 there was a decent selection of LPs on that front. I did not go in to take notes or photograph every single thing of interest I that I found, so you should <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Horizons Music :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/www.horizonsmusic.com\/index.php?route=common\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit the Horizons website to search the catalog for what might be music to your ears<\/a><\/span>. Below are a few of the covers that stuck out to me including one for a film that is currently in the <strong>Criterion Collection<\/strong>. (Hint: it\u2019s not <strong>JAWS 3<\/strong>, <strong>THE LONELY LADY<\/strong>, or <strong>HIGH ANXIETY<\/strong>.) <strong>VISIONS OF EIGHT<\/strong> is an anthology film about the <strong>1972 Olympics<\/strong> with segments directed by the likes of <strong>Milos Forman, Kon Ichikawa<\/strong>, and <strong>Arthur Penn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"A sample of merchandise to be found at Horizons Music. (Photo: Jason Pankoke)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cublog_calendarBNR327_horizonB_LP_mel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"567\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since the drive-in season is now upon us, with the <strong>Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in<\/strong> of <strong>Gibson City<\/strong> and <strong>Route 66 Drive-in<\/strong> of <strong>Springfield<\/strong> opening back up this weekend, let\u2019s share an LP that I found away from the soundtracks. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u201935 Original Hits\u2019 (The Home Shoppe Ltd., Canada) :: Horizons Music\" href=\"https:\/\/swmdev-13.com\/index.php?route=product\/product&amp;language=en-gb&amp;product_id=841&amp;path=62&amp;sort=p.model&amp;order=DESC&amp;page=264&amp;limit=100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It\u2019s exactly as advertised, filled with vintage radio songs<\/a><\/span> by artists we all know: <strong>Buddy Holly, Connie Francis, Fats Domino, Richie Valens, Pat Boone, Chuck Berry<\/strong>, the <strong>Everly Brothers<\/strong>, and so on. Marked at $35 by Horizon, the price may seem a bit steep but it\u2019s three platters and brand new in shrink wrap; some beautiful dreamers are trying to sell this for between $100 and $350 elsewhere. Although I posed the covers a bit so they were easier to see, the following is depicted as I found it \u2013 standing by itself above the rows of soundtrack LPs, leaning against the back of something from the opposite side of the table. I had <em>just<\/em> been telling Confidential agent <strong>Drea<\/strong>, who is rediscovering her musical side through various doings at <strong>Parkland College<\/strong>, about the late <strong>Dora Hall<\/strong>; she was the wife of <strong>Solo Cup<\/strong> founder <strong>Leo Hulseman<\/strong>, who bankrolled her second wind in life as an entertainer through a series of LPs. 45s, television specials, and VHS tapes. This album checks two of those marks and was issued in 1972 by the <strong>Cozy Record Company<\/strong> of <strong>Chicago<\/strong>, one of several labels founded with the express purpose of introducing Hall to the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Next week, we\u2019ll begin our survey of local film artifacts stored with love here at <strong>MFHQ Deux<\/strong> and, at some point, it will involve both Dora Hall <em>and<\/em> Urbana. A modest program features more than 25 pieces, serving as a \u201ccelebration of the art of cinematography\u201d per <strong>AmeriCorps<\/strong> hire and outreach advisor <strong>Nicole Pion<\/strong>, and is rich with interactive portions to engage audience members. Activists, students, and producers from the immediate community are behind many of the movie selections while live attractions include a deejay and projection set by <strong>DJ Belly<\/strong> and <strong>Matt HarsH<\/strong>, post-film discussions led by the <strong>Gesundheit! Institute<\/strong> and the <strong>People\u2019s Potluck<\/strong>, and an orchestral performance synched up to the silent German classic, <strong>THE CABINET OF DR.
