Always remember \u2013 this is not just movies, it\u2019s our lives.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CONFIDENTIAL ALMANAC | Dates in Film Culture History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>5 Years Ago \u2026<\/strong> <em>Thursday, January 21, 2021:<\/em> At approximately <strong>4:30 a.m.<\/strong>, following an all-night cleaning session that included removal of the remaining decorations from the walls of the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong>, publisher <strong>Jason Pankoke<\/strong> takes his name off the mailbox in the lobby of the <strong>World Famous \u201cBuilding\u201d<\/strong> on the corner of <strong>Hill<\/strong> and <strong>Prairie<\/strong> streets in Champaign\u2019s <strong>Sesquicentennial Neighborhood<\/strong> and slips the keys through the mail slot of the manager\u2019s office. It concludes a run of nearly thirty years for Pankoke as a citizen, taxpayer, wage-earner, community member, and contributing arts promoter and creator in <strong>Champaign-Urbana, Illinois<\/strong>, with the last quarter century spent as the occupant of Suite 3D. He makes it safely to his mother\u2019s house at sunrise with a vehicle packed to the hilt and then crashes in bed after an eight-week-long ordeal clearing out the space almost single-handedly during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>30 Years Ago \u2026<\/strong> <em>Saturday, July 1, 1995:<\/em> A recent Twin Cities transplant named <strong>Jason Pankoke<\/strong> takes over as the tenant of apartment 3D in a property managed by the owners of a downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong> family business, <strong>Custom Flooring and Interior<\/strong>. Wanting to move on from his original residence in west Champaign, Pankoke responded to an advertisement in the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong> and agreed to meet with landlord <strong>Jean Niemann<\/strong> at the location, an older and converted business building one block north of <strong>West Side Park<\/strong>. He was surprised at the character and make-up of the immediate vicinity, having never set foot before in the <strong>Sesquicentennial Neighborhood<\/strong>, and took a liking to the roomy third-floor unit.
