At some point, we\u2019d love to invite into our ranks a Calendar Editor who could dedicate their time to dependably posting the details. With our focus slowly shifting evermore towards our specialty \u2013 the film culture generated within <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond \u2013 your humble editor can apparently sew only so many seeds at once. We\u2019ll pledge at the least to report on the most tantalizing glimmers of relevant film exhibition and work them in when possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Certainly qualifying is a reprise of <strong>Kimberly D. Conner<\/strong>\u2019s dramatic short about an AIDS victim, <a title=\"THIS LIFE AIN'T PRETTY :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thislifeaintprettythemovie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>THIS LIFE AIN\u2019T PRETTY<\/strong><\/a>, which will screen for free later tonight, <strong>Friday, February 26, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, in <strong>Room 100<\/strong> (the auditorium) of <strong>Gregory Hall, 810 S. Wright St., Urbana, IL<\/strong>, on the <strong>University of Illinois Main Quad<\/strong>. Champaign native Conner shot the 35-minute short in <strong>Springfield<\/strong>, where she currently lives as well as works for the <strong>Illinois Department of Health Care and Family Services<\/strong>, as a cautionary tale speaking to the African-American community about the indiscriminate reach of the disease \u2013 even affecting heterosexual females who are otherwise in good health. Watch <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>for our discussion with Conner about <strong>PRETTY <\/strong>and her other upcoming projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Just across the walkway at <strong>Foellinger Auditorium, 709 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana, IL<\/strong>, the <strong><a title=\"EGSA Insect Fear Film Festival @ Life.Illinois.edu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.life.illinois.edu\/entomology\/egsa\/ifff.html\" target=\"_blank\">Insect Fear Film Festival<\/a> <\/strong>will return on <strong>Saturday, February 27<\/strong>, with a \u201cprehistoric insect\u201d theme as illustrated by <strong>THE BLACK SCORPION<\/strong> (1957), an atomic monster jaunt featuring some of the last filmed work by <strong>KING KONG<\/strong> animator <strong>Willis O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, and <strong>ICE CRAWLERS<\/strong> (2003), a direct-to-video \u201ckiller trilobite\u201d feature directed by <strong>Belleville, IL<\/strong>, native and <strong>Southern Illinois University-Carbondale<\/strong> alum <strong>John Carl Buechler<\/strong>. Cartoons, trailers, and other clips will fill out the program, which begins at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, while starting at <strong>6 p.m.<\/strong> the Foellinger foyer will be turned into a creepy crawly emporium as graduate students of the UIUC Entomology program display live insects, mounted insects, fossil insects, student insect art, and the <strong>Bugscope<\/strong>. Special guests this year will be horseshoe crabs, described as \u201cliving fossils\u201d by the festival\u2019s guiding light, Entomology department chair <strong>May Berenbaum, PhD<\/strong>. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Those of you who might not have realized the <strong>Art Theater, 126 W. Church St., Champaign, IL<\/strong>, began booking <strong>Bollywood <\/strong>cinema again can thrill to <strong>KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK<\/strong>, a brand-new feature showing at <strong>1:30 p.m.<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday, February 27<\/strong>. (Don\u2019t forget about the marquee film, <strong>THE LAST STATION<\/strong>, and the weekend late show, <strong>THE LAST WALTZ<\/strong>; <a title=\"Current movie schedule :: The Art Theater\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecuart.com\/schedule.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">scheduling is listed right here<\/a>.)
