We at <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Octopus<\/span><\/strong> went through the motions to finish the current issue as we also began to hash out how our alternative weekly was going to handle covering the disaster \u2013 we couldn\u2019t not address it, despite the primary events happening in <strong>New York, Pennsylvania<\/strong>, and <strong>Virginia<\/strong> \u2013 as well as what it meant to the security and safety of our country\u2019s residents and the political ramifications of our standing on the world stage. Heavy intellectual lifting would be had in the many days to come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As production manager, the job was the only one I\u2019ve had in my working life where I could walk to and from the office. At home, the original <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong>, I cleaned up and left like usual. I had internet but no inclination to check online. I was still many years removed from having a cell phone stuck in my back pocket. And, to this day, I can\u2019t shake how there was something quite off as I entered downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong> that morning. A pall hung over the terrain from<strong> West Side Park<\/strong> to the <strong>Lincoln Building<\/strong>. Wasn\u2019t buzzing. Wasn\u2019t crackling. We were just there, a neighborhood and a city with its citizens and guests, collectively awaiting any news or clarification about the acts of terrorism enacted on our soil. It impressed on me harshly enough, despite being far removed from the immediate rubble and pain, that I recounted all that washed over me in an issue of my friend <strong>Aj Michel<\/strong>\u2019s zine,<strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">low hug<\/span><\/strong>, a few months later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">America needs to always remember the fallen and respect the living who got into harm\u2019s way, including those who\u2019ve been harmed ever since with sickness and early mortality, to help and rescue where they could, as well as the family, friends, and communities of all these folks whose realities were shaken by this horrific fate. Americans also need to be wary of how our current administration might spin this in grotesque and patronizing fashion as they tend to do about nearly everything of gravity, whether it occurred well in the past or affects our nation and its populace in the present. That includes today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The local film culture news is piling up, we\u2019re aware. (That\u2019s us in the banner for this week\u2019s <strong>Calendar<\/strong>. Can\u2019t you tell? We\u2019ll stave off the <em>kaboom<\/em> with all our might\u2026) Because we have a pair of bonus features in the works for next week on <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong>, and especially since <strong>Mr. JaPan<\/strong> is now in a mood upon serious reflection, we\u2019re foregoing a ticker proper for one more week. Our movies will still be here.
