We <em>all<\/em> miss Johnnie May.\u00a0It&#8217;s been\u00a0almost 10 years since\u00a0he split for\u00a0<strong>Madison, Wisconsin<\/strong>, where the pedigree is more hip and the atmosphere more conducive to coaching soccer and animating little pipe cleaner figures. (I&#8217;m only speculating on that last part.) Although, Mr. May actually began animating little pipe cleaner figures when he still lived in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> and taught at <strong>Uni High<\/strong>. Some of the stop-motion evidence will be on display\u00a0tomorrow, <strong>Saturday, May 26<\/strong>, according to an e-postcard that I received:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Tabletop Studios retrospective @ ESCAPE Java Joint, Madison, WI\" alt=\"Tabletop Studios retrospective @ ESCAPE Java Joint, Madison, WI\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_tabletopstudios.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">If you happen to be up Madison way, then stop by the <strong><a title=\"ESCAPE Java Joint &#038; Art Gallery :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.escapejavajoint.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">ESCAPE Java Joint &#038; Art Gallery<\/a>, 916 Willy St.<\/strong>,\u00a0around <strong>8:30 p.m.<\/strong> I&#8217;m guessing that\u00a0Johnnie May will roll out all the <strong>Tabletop Studios<\/strong> oldies including <strong>CA 1999<\/strong>, <strong>ISOLATION<\/strong>, &#8220;<strong>Drive On<\/strong>,&#8221; &#8220;<strong>Completely Dresden<\/strong>,&#8221; and previews for other long-in-coming works like <strong>CA II: SOB<\/strong>. His new film, <strong>(i am going to love you..) SOMEDAY<\/strong>, is an interesting 14-minute amalgamation of his different animation styles &#8211; and it&#8217;s in French, too! (Don&#8217;t worry. He also knows how to animate subtitles.)
