{"id":1839,"date":"2010-04-14T01:13:25","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T07:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1839"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:56:11","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T20:56:11","slug":"art-cuzine-to-debut-naff-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1839","title":{"rendered":"Art, CUZine to debut NAFF 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Beginning this <strong>Thursday, April 15<\/strong>, the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong> and <strong>C-U Confidential<\/strong> present the first-ever <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> (NAFF) \u2013 what <a title=\"CUZineShow II set for April :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1708\" target=\"_blank\">we had previously referred to<\/a> as the next <strong>CUZine Local Film Show<\/strong> \u2013 featuring six days\u2019 worth of local filmmaking and a few bonus Midwest-made examples for good measure. Timed to coincide with the annual <a title=\"Boneyard Arts Festival :: 40 North 88 West\" href=\"http:\/\/www.40north.org\/\/events\/festival.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Boneyard Arts Festival<\/strong><\/a> presented by <strong>40 North 88 West<\/strong>, the arts council of <strong>Champaign County<\/strong>, NAFF will encompass more than 12 shows and 20 features, shorts, and music videos that will demonstrate to our friends and neighbors that, indeed, creative media is alive and well and proliferating in the place where we call home!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Highlights include: the public C-U premieres of several films, including the documentary <strong>HOOPESTON<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Thomas Bender<\/strong> (see item: <a title=\"Q&amp;A du C-U: Bender &amp; Bakkila :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=714\" target=\"_blank\">3\/8\/10<\/a>), the low-budget drama <strong>A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Derek Klein<\/strong> (see item: <a title=\"Premonition is now CERTAIN-ty :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1107\" target=\"_blank\">10\/4\/09<\/a>), and a \u201csneak preview\u201d of the upcoming <strong>Dreamscape Cinema<\/strong> thriller <strong>DISPOSABLE<\/strong>; a 10th anniversary show of films by current and past members of <strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong>; a block of <strong>Chicago<\/strong>-made indies including the music video <strong>THE LIFELINE: TRILOGY<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Chris Folkens<\/strong> (see item: <a title=\"LIFELINE: TRILOGY to rock MIFF :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=270\" target=\"_blank\">5\/25\/08<\/a>), and the documentary <strong>SEVEN SIGNS<\/strong>, directed by <strong>J.D. Wilkes<\/strong> (see item: <a title=\"\u201cKnife\u201d #3: Money to Make Art? :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1497\" target=\"_blank\">12\/28\/09<\/a>); three late-night shows commemorating the 10th anniversary of <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> including <strong>DEADWOOD PARK<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Eric Stanze<\/strong> (MF 1), <strong>RETURN IN RED<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Tyler Tharpe<\/strong> (MF 6, 7), and the <em>\u00fcber<\/em>-quintessential <strong>MF <\/strong>movie, <strong>EXISTO<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Coke Sams<\/strong> (MF 4); and, more!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Akin to the quick-paced potpourri of our Boneyard show last year at <strong>Caff\u00e9 Paradiso<\/strong> in <strong>Urbana<\/strong>, a \u201cnon-taxing film loop\u201d will kick off NAFF beginning at <strong>5 p.m.<\/strong> on Thursday, featuring trailers of this year\u2019s long-form selections as well as music videos and shorts, the latter including <strong>THE TRANSIENT<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Chris Lukeman<\/strong>, and <strong>DR. ZOND CONTROLS THE WEATHER<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Johnny Robinson<\/strong>. This set will repeat three times through the evening, leading up to <strong>EXISTO <\/strong>and the short <strong>FALLING TO THE TOP<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Wes Edwards<\/strong>, at <strong>10 p.m.<\/strong> All presentations on this day are free!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thanks to <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong> and the Art, filmgoers will receive a break the rest of the way as tickets for all NAFF shows from <strong>Friday, April 16<\/strong>, to <strong>Tuesday, April 20<\/strong>, will cost the $6.50 matinee price.
