Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>EXHIBITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It\u2019s a week of first looks here in <strong>MICRO-FILM Country<\/strong> and we couldn\u2019t be happier to get down to business right \u2026 about \u2026 <em>now!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Shooting on <strong>Champaign County<\/strong> turf but editing in faraway <strong>Portland <\/strong>for the better part of three years, <strong>Jason Butler<\/strong> of <strong>Brainsmart Productions<\/strong> will finally unveil the concluding episode of his action-horror-comedy-townie opus, <strong>WEREWOLF CEMETERY<\/strong>, this weekend at <strong>Mike \u2018n\u2019 Molly\u2019s, 105 N. Market St.<\/strong>, downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong>, on <strong>Friday, August 13<\/strong>, and <strong>Sunday, August 15<\/strong>, at <strong>11 p.m.<\/strong> on both nights. Butler will also revive Issue 3 at the same location later tonight, <strong>Thursday, August 12<\/strong>, at <strong>midnight<\/strong>. \u201cRegarding Issue 4, the story is all there, the sound mix is not as I want it but is decent, and it is missing the [opening] credits sequence,\u201d Butler tells <strong>CUBlog<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be a long editing winter [to finish up].\u201d Look right here early tomorrow to get a quick peek at what\u2019s in store for all ye who enter the beer garden this weekend!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Accompanying <strong>WC4<\/strong> on <strong>Sunday <\/strong>at both <strong>10:30 p.m.<\/strong> and <strong>1 a.m.<\/strong> will be a long-lost effort at no-budget surrealism by local graphic artist <strong>Karl Bauer<\/strong> called <strong>ONE ROACH FOR SEAMUS<\/strong>. \u201cI had intended to use the project in an application to <strong>NYU <\/strong>film school,\u201d says Bauer in a <strong>Facebook <\/strong>post. \u201cThe footage sat around for a number of years and was even completely missing for about a decade. Recently it was found so I decided to edit it [together].\u201d The short film features <strong>Danny Yairi, Shan Lusk, Joe Donhowe, Veerle Opgenhaffen<\/strong>, and <strong>Barney Joyce<\/strong>, who co-wrote <strong>SEAMUS <\/strong>with Bauer and also plays a double-crossing agent in the <strong>WEREWOLF CEMETERY<\/strong> series. The director also states that <strong>SEAMUS <\/strong>is influenced by <strong>David Lynch<\/strong>\u2019s seminal underground feature, <strong>ERASERHEAD<\/strong>, <strong>Franz Kafka<\/strong>\u2019s famous novella of alienation, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Metamorphosis<\/strong><\/span>, and <strong>JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN<\/strong>, a dreamlike <strong>Vietnam<\/strong>-era parable starring <strong>Timothy Bottoms<\/strong> and directed by <strong>Dalton Trumbo<\/strong>, screenwriter of <strong>HAWAII <\/strong>and <strong>PAPILLON<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let\u2019s note that these are not just movie nights at Mike \u2018n\u2019 Molly\u2019s. \u201cThe Future of Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll\u201d showcase featuring <strong>The Fantastic Plastics, Achille Lauro<\/strong>, and <strong>Death Tram<\/strong> will play before <strong>WC3<\/strong> tonight, <strong>The Dirty Feathers<\/strong> and <strong>Santah <\/strong>will take the stage before <strong>WC4<\/strong> on Friday, and <strong>Kayla Brown, Brandon T. Washington<\/strong>, and <strong>Tricia Scully<\/strong> will perform before <strong>WC4\/SEAMUS<\/strong> on Sunday. Case in point is <strong>Dad<\/strong>. Except for a handful of old Super 8 reels dating way back to my very beginning, I don\u2019t think any video or audio recordings exist of him \u2013 <strong>Mom <\/strong>did her part on the still photo front \u2013 and I did consider taping family gatherings a handful of times but I refrained. Memory is now forced to serve me right. That\u2019s okay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I wonder sometimes just how many folks go before the cameras for all the wrong reasons or are forced to be there without their complete consent so someone else can prove a point or earn a buck. For every second that preserves history, art, family, or the truth, many minutes are wasteful, disingenuous, or merely empty. We need to consider the integrity not only of that which we record, but of whom.
