PRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Danville <\/strong>independent filmmaker Mike Boedicker<\/strong> of Roselawn Productions, Ltd.<\/strong>, dropped CUBlog <\/strong>a line to let us know what is happening with his new film, REVOLTING<\/strong><\/a>, which had its public debut last weekend. \u201cWe had about 75 people at the screening,\u201d says Boedicker. \u201cThe crowd we had was responsive and appreciative.\u201d He and wife\/co-producer Leslie <\/strong>have scheduled several more shows in the immediate area starting on Friday, August 20<\/strong>, and Saturday, August 21<\/strong>, at the Fischer Theatre<\/strong> in Danville, to be continued on Saturday, September 25<\/strong>, and Sunday, September 26<\/strong>, at the Art Theater<\/strong> in Champaign <\/strong>as well as Saturday, October 23<\/strong>, at Sleepy Creek Vineyards<\/strong> in Fairmount<\/strong>. They\u2019re also looking beyond the local horizon for audiences and distribution. \u201cI\u2019ve entered the film in the Oxford International Film Festival<\/strong> out in Cincinnati <\/strong>and am investigating other festivals to enter,\u201d continues Boedicker. \u201cThe process will probably last a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

MERCH<\/strong><\/p>\n

As of last week\u2019s premiere at the Kathryn Randolph Theater<\/strong> in Danville, Roselawn Productions is offering a REVOLTING <\/strong>DVD-R for perusal on your home entertainment system. Included are a 16×9 presentation of the 81-minute feature (letterboxed for 4×3 television screens), an \u201cAnatomy of a Scene\u201d demonstrating the editing changes made to the climactic scene, an \u201cAbout the Music\u201d essay explaining the director\u2019s choices in music and musicians, a Shooting Script in PDF format, a Trailer, and Cast and Crew Biographies. The first batch only numbers 100 so visit the REVOLTING <\/strong>Web site<\/a> \u2013 or attend any of the upcoming shows at the Fischer, the Art, or Sleepy Creek \u2013 to nab one quick! A Blu-ray release may also be issued in the fall.<\/p>\n

MEETINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keep in mind that on Tuesday, August 24, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong><\/a> will meet at Class Act Interactive, 114 S. Neil St., Champaign<\/strong>, to afford area filmmakers and talent an opportunity to discuss and join forces in the making of independent cinema in the area. This month\u2019s presentation by Bill Kephart<\/strong> and Joe Taylor<\/strong> will cover the creation of their PopTent.net<\/strong> spec commercials; additional topics TBD. MEDIA LINKS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Returning to the Windy City press this week, we unearth a commentary<\/a> by Chicago Tribune<\/strong><\/span> media columnist Phil Rosenthal <\/strong>posted on August 11<\/strong> about the final taping of AT THE MOVIES<\/strong> with A.O. Scott<\/strong> and Michael Phillips<\/strong>. Your humble editor remembers way back when ATM <\/strong>aired on its original station, WTTW-Channel 11<\/strong> in Chicago<\/strong>, with original hosts Roger Ebert<\/strong> and the late Gene Siskel<\/strong>. It\u2019s been a long road paved with thousands of movie reviews, various content tweaks, and controversial talent substitutions; will the traditional aisle-seat format be missed? Hopefully we won\u2019t get a chance to find out if Ebert himself has his way<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also threatening to vanish, according to current operator Joshua Caudle<\/strong>, is the venerable two-screen Lorraine Theater<\/strong> in Hoopeston<\/strong>. According to this August 14<\/strong> article<\/a> posted by the Danville Commercial-News<\/strong><\/span>, Caudle notes that attendance has been off so much in 2010 that he is losing favor with the studios to show first-run titles and thereby attract enough attendance to pay the bills. He then challenges the community to step up their support or likely lose the Lorraine as a movie house. Caudle\u2019s slightly desperate tone is warranted, given how hard he\u2019s busted ass to keep the Lorraine operational and in good shape since his arrival in 2008<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, threatening to reappear this Friday, August 20<\/strong> \u2013 according to the note currently displayed on the home page<\/a> \u2013 is a new and improved Web site for the Illini Film & Video<\/strong> club at the University of Illinois<\/strong>. Incoming president and swell dude Beanz Ramierz<\/strong> hopefully will have additional surprises in store for the group\u2019s 2010-11 school year; you can trust CUBlog <\/strong>to pass along the scoop once we have it!<\/p>\n

And finally, leave it to America\u2019s Finest News Source<\/a> to break the story on how the State of Illinois <\/strong>is earning itself some funding \u2013 if not an improved reputation \u2013 through the nether regions of the entertainment industry. Can\u2019t wait for the Illinois Film Office<\/strong> to proudly show this product as part of their \u201cIFO Night at the Movies\u201d series!<\/p>\n
