Thursday, September 20, 7 p.m.<\/strong>: The fall Human Rights Film Series<\/strong>\u00a0moves forward with TAXI DREAMS<\/strong>, about four immigrant cabbies establishing new\u00a0lives in New York City. The series continues on consecutive Thursdays with FARMINGVILLE<\/strong> (Oct. 4) and LETTERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE<\/strong> (Oct. 11). Wednesday, October 3<\/strong>: Sometime earlier in the day, the experimental film portrait KURT COBAIN: ABOUT A SON<\/strong> will\u00a0have its commercial theatrical debut at the IFC Center<\/strong> in New York\u00a0City<\/strong>. Directed by Illinois native\u00a0AJ Schnack<\/strong> (GIGANTIC<\/strong>), this meditation mates Cobain voice recordings with Pacific Northwest cinematography and a non-Nirvana<\/strong> soundtrack. ABOUT A SON<\/strong> rates a mention here because Chris Green<\/strong>, part-time Champaign resident and host\/co-creator of C-U music video programs<\/a>, is listed as a producer. He also earned an\u00a0Associate Producer credit on the documentary FAVELA RISING<\/strong>, which played the Art Theatre during this year’s Latin American Film Festival<\/strong>\u00a0(see item: 2\/21\/07<\/a>). Elsewhere,\u00a0Shout! Factory<\/strong> announced\u00a0in a September 18 e-newsletter\u00a0that it will release the DVD for ABOUT A SON<\/strong> in early 2008. Click for more<\/a><\/p>\n
