If football games, crime show marathons, or crappy Hollywood movies repeated <em>ad nauseum<\/em> are not your cup of eggnog,\u00a0why not spend quality time investigating what our film-making friends and neighbors have been up to lately?<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> comedy-adventure <strong>PRESS START<\/strong> arrived on home video in September from\u00a0<strong>Dark Maze Studios<\/strong>, who decided to stuff their disc with numerous\u00a0trimmings in addition to a colorful, full-frame presentation of the 102-minute movie. Apart from a talking-head featurette and a trailer, supplements on the DVD-R come in threes: a trio of episodes from the on-line <strong>BONUS LEVEL<\/strong> &#8220;Flash&#8221; cartoons, a troika of\u00a0<strong>DIAL V FOR VILE<\/strong>\u00a0skits featuring Count Nefarious Vile (played by <strong>Peter Davis<\/strong>), and a triad of commentaries moderated by director <strong>Ed Glaser<\/strong> and featuring production crew (<strong>Kevin Folliard, Meagan Benz<\/strong>), cast members (<strong>Josh Stafford, Al Morrison, Davis<\/strong>), and composer <strong>Jake Kaufman<\/strong>. Attractively packaged, the DVD can be purchased through <a title=\"PRESS START :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pressstartmovie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">the official Web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"PRESS START (Dark Maze Studios) and LATE AFTERNOON OF THE LIVING DEAD (Ten Wing Films)\" alt=\"PRESS START (Dark Maze Studios) and LATE AFTERNOON OF THE LIVING DEAD (Ten Wing Films)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_pressstart_LAOTLD.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Reaching back farther, <strong>Ten Wing Films<\/strong> timed the video release of their horror-comedy, <strong>LATE AFTERNOON OF THE LIVING DEAD<\/strong>, with its springtime screenings in <strong>Bloomington-Normal<\/strong>. The DVD-9 packs its own gallery of ghoulish extras to complement the 108-minute feature, which is letterboxed and tricked up to emulate grainy black-and-white celluloid. Digital giblets include a blooper reel, music video, three trailers, a novel &#8220;revolving door&#8221; commentary track, the original 1998 short made by <strong>LAOTLD<\/strong> star <strong>Chris Hutson<\/strong> that inspired the feature, and an amusing half-hour spoof crossing <strong>MASTERPIECE THEATRE<\/strong> with <strong>INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO<\/strong>. Also attractively packaged, the DVD can be purchased through <a title=\"LATE AFTERNOON OF THE LIVING DEAD :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lateafternoonofthelivingdead.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">their own Internet portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Greg Trumbold stars in NEAR MISS\" alt=\"Greg Trumbold stars in NEAR MISS\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_nearmiss_greg.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Finally, the <strong><a title=\"Blue Bassoon Pictures :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bluebassoon.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Bassoon Pictures<\/a><\/strong> short <strong>NEAR MISS<\/strong> is technically not available on home video but, unlike <strong>PRESS START<\/strong> and <strong>LAOTLD<\/strong>, you <em>can<\/em> rent it locally. <strong>That&#8217;s Rentertainment, 516 E. John Street, Champaign, IL<\/strong>, carries the DVD-R, which\u00a0features a letterbox presentation of the whimsical\u00a016-minute drama along with a blooper reel, slideshow, commentary by director <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=164\">Alaric Rocha<\/a><\/strong>, and nine audio cuts from soundtrack artists <strong>Issac Pierce &#038; Ten Speed<\/strong>.
