For maybe just as long, I have\u00a0enjoyed a series of conversations with <strong>John Martirano<\/strong>, a former UIUC library science student who dabbles in data research and design as well as\u00a0the arts. John has also been working on a documentary about his father, one of the catalysts of that era\u00a0remembered by Glassman.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">A highly productive innovator in traditional and electronic composition, <strong><a title=\"Salvatore Martirano memorial page @ EMS.Music.UIUC.edu\" href=\"http:\/\/ems.music.uiuc.edu\/~martiran\/\" target=\"_blank\">Salvatore Martirano<\/a><\/strong> taught at the <a title=\"Experimental Music Studios, School of Music @ UIUC.edu\" href=\"http:\/\/ems.music.uiuc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Experimental Music Studio<\/strong><\/a> of the UIUC <strong>School of Music<\/strong> from 1963 until his passing in 1995. One of his creations, the <strong>SalMar Construction<\/strong>, was apparently the first machine ever made for the specific purpose of\u00a0generating musical notation\u00a0in real time. Salvatore also worked\u00a0on mixed-media performances that involved live actors, projections, and political commentary, as well as a string of video explorations during the Eighties.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Practically all of the above will be represented before and during the <strong>11th Annual Martirano Award Concert<\/strong> which will take place tonight, <strong>Thursday, November 15, 7:30 p.m.<\/strong>, in the <strong>Tryon Festival Theatre<\/strong> of the <strong>Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, UIUC, 500 S. Goodwin, Urbana<\/strong>. Prior to show time, SalMar co-engineer <strong>Gregory Danner<\/strong> will demonstrate the 400 pound machine in the KCPA lobby at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong> Then, the\u00a0first half of the concert proper ($10\/general public, $7\/seniors, $4\/students) will feature the <strong>UI New Music Ensemble<\/strong> performing this year&#8217;s prize-winning works with their composers in attendance.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"M.C.
