{"id":2329,"date":"2010-11-08T09:00:09","date_gmt":"2010-11-08T15:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=2329"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:55:33","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T20:55:33","slug":"evff-to-focus-on-silent-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=2329","title":{"rendered":"EVFF to focus on silent films"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our friend <strong>Robin Murray<\/strong> of the English and Film Studies departments at <strong>Eastern Illinois University<\/strong> in Charleston has sent along the full schedule (which you can review after the jump) for the seventh annual <a title=\"Embarras Valley Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/castle.eiu.edu\/~evff\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Embarras Valley Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, taking place from <strong>Thursday, November 11<\/strong>, to <strong>Saturday, November 13<\/strong>. This year\u2019s event will focus on how the achievements of filmmaker <strong>Oscar Micheaux<\/strong>, cinematographer <strong>Gregg Toland<\/strong>, and actor <strong>Charles Clary<\/strong> \u2013 all of whom have history in central and southern <strong>Illinois <\/strong>\u2013 helped shape the silent era of cinema. All lectures and film screenings will occur either at the EIU <strong>Doudna Fine Arts Center<\/strong>, EIU <strong>Tarble Arts Center<\/strong>, or the <strong>Charleston Carnegie Public Library<\/strong>, the latter off-campus at <strong>712 6th St., Charleston<\/strong>. Not unlike the popular <strong>Alloy Orchestra<\/strong> appearances at \u201c<strong>Ebertfest<\/strong>,\u201d the EVFF has paired Micheaux\u2019s key work <strong>WITHIN OUR GATES<\/strong> with \u201cLittle Egypt\u201d based group <strong>Stace England &amp; the Salt Kings<\/strong>, who will also play selections from their concept album, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Amazing Oscar Micheaux<\/strong><\/span>, during a separate performance.
