Those who wish to audition for relatively clean face time (e.g., roles with lines, unless the filmmakers play against type and afford their zombies dialogue) should write <strong>tatamous1 [at] hotmail [dot] com<\/strong> with \u201cZombie\u201d in the Subject line.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Also appearing on the FB as an \u201cEvent\u201d that <strong>CUBiz <\/strong>friends are \u201cattending,\u201d the <strong>Champaign <\/strong>marketing firm <strong><a title=\"Surface51 :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/surface51.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surface51<\/a> <\/strong>has put out a call for \u201ca diverse group of individuals to be extras in a variety of television and video projects. No experience is necessary. The horror\/sci-fi\/gaming fan press has been buzzing possibilities of this team-up for a while and, presuming it gets sealed with a kiss and a signed contract in the near future, it should prove to be more fruitful than, say, <a title=\"Year 2000 News :: Harrison Ford Web fan page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisonfordweb.com\/news2000.html\" target=\"_blank\">that one time when <strong>Harrison Ford<\/strong> touched down at <strong>Willard Airport<\/strong> briefly<\/a> to refuel his helicopter and refuel himself at <strong>Hooters<\/strong>. (<em>HAY<\/em>&#8211;<em>oh!<\/em>) The most-likely-occasional-at-best presence of <strong>Guillermo del Toro<\/strong> in the C-U would probably result in nil contact with the local filmmaking contingent and precious few public appearances \u2013 which <a title=\"Guillermo del Toro in Farmer City proximity! :: Jib0563's IGN Blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/blogs\/Jib0563\/2010\/11\/09\/guillermo-del-toro-is\/\" target=\"_blank\">didn\u2019t stop one <strong>Parkland College<\/strong> student from pontificating<\/a> how far away the director of <strong>CRONOS <\/strong>and <strong>BLADE II<\/strong> would be from his home town, <strong>Farmer City<\/strong> \u2013 although one imagines <strong>Exile on Main Street<\/strong> and <strong>G-Mart<\/strong> will receive token visits as goodwill and convenient stops for the man to get his pop culture fix. Your humble editor will refrain from holding his breath on anything regarding del Toro other than to say he\u2019d rather see <em>this <\/em>big-budget filmmaker frequent <strong>MICRO-FILM County<\/strong> over many others. And because he knows you\u2019ll ask, he loved <strong>THE DEVIL\u2019S BACKBONE<\/strong> and highly enjoyed <strong>HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY<\/strong> but hasn\u2019t seen any other del Toro unless you count <strong>SPLICE<\/strong>. <em>Yes<\/em>, that excludes <strong>PAN\u2019S LABRYNTH<\/strong>. Who knew we would tune in to <a title=\"Urbana Public Television page @ Urbana, IL, official site\" href=\"http:\/\/urbanaillinois.us\/uptv\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Urbana Public Television<\/strong><\/a> (UPTV) on a random Saturday night and encounter a heaping dose of public domain movie madness in the form of early Sixties monochrome Gothic Italian horror, <strong>CASTLE OF TERROR<\/strong>, complete with horror hosts! Of course, we planted our butts and watched to the end of this <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>-made concoction, <a title=\"Dr. Dreck @ Facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Dr-Dreck\/191103569218\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>THE DUNGEON OF DR. DRECK<\/strong><\/a>, created by old <strong>MF <\/strong>friend <strong>Mike Legge<\/strong> whose <a title=\"Sideshow Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/mysite.verizon.net\/mlegge12\/Welcome.html\" target=\"_blank\">light-hearted genre satire<\/a> (<strong>BRAINDRAINER, CURTAINS<\/strong>) always stood out from the micro-budget pack. Creeping out East Coast cable subscribers since 2004, <strong>DR. DRECK<\/strong> has spawned more than 100 episodes as well as a same-named video feature released by <strong>Sub Rosa Studios<\/strong>. Although bargain basement by design \u2013 financially <em>and <\/em>literally, since mad scientist Dreck (Legge) and reanimated cheerleader Moana (<strong>Lorna Nogueira<\/strong>) host the program from the basement of their rather suburban-looking dungeon \u2013 it\u2019s highly watchable nonsense and one of precious few entertainment programs aired by UPTV each week, usually in the wee hours when one must know to look. We\u2019ve also observed that, excluding student shorts and endless re-runs of <strong>THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS VS. A MUMMY<\/strong> and <strong>PRESS START <\/strong>on the <strong>University of Illinois channel<\/strong> (UI-7), one is <em>very <\/em>hard-pressed to find original, locally made programming of an arts and entertainment stripe on UI-7, UPTV, <strong>Champaign Government Television<\/strong> (CGTV), or the <strong>Parkland College Television<\/strong> (PCTV). We have nothing against educational and good-for-our-community programming, of course, but certainly our friends and neighbors might also enjoy more regular breaks from talking heads and field reports. It might be worth one\u2019s while to not only check local listings via the recently-launched gateway Web site, <a title=\"Champaign-Urbana Community Television :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/cucabletv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Champaign-Urbana Community Television<\/strong><\/a>, to find the occasional nuggets of lo-fi weirdness that only cable access can muster, but to investigate opportunities for creating and airing one\u2019s own programs. UPTV has been very inviting to the C-U in this regard, hint <em>hint<\/em>. Why should we continually be beat to the punch by Dreck? (Sorry, Doc, we couldn\u2019t resist. Love you, love the program! \u201cMwuah!\u201d to Moana!)
