Regardless of our comments from the last CUBiz<\/strong>, we do <\/em>encourage spreading the love by introducing your friends and family to the movies of Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond! EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Festival director Linda McElroy<\/strong> announced yesterday on Facebook <\/strong>that advance passes for next year\u2019s 10th annual Route 66 International Film Festival<\/strong> are now available through the Hoogland Center for the Arts<\/strong><\/a> in Springfield, IL<\/strong>. Passes gain the bearer admittance to all R66FF events and cost a mere $50 each<\/a> from now to December 31<\/strong>. We bet they would make great gifts!<\/p>\n

MEETINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keep in mind that on Tuesday, December 14, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong><\/a> will meet at Class Act Interactive, 114 S. Neil St., Champaign<\/strong>, to afford area filmmakers and talent an opportunity to discuss and join forces in the making of independent cinema in the area. This month\u2019s presentation by Cara Maurizi<\/strong> will explore the relationship between film directors and actors and what each should expect from the other while on the set. Seems we blew the proverbial wad last week with the linkage overload, so we\u2019ll keep it simple by directing you to reviews by Mike Clark<\/strong> of Home Media Magazine<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and Jason Bailey<\/strong> of DVDTalk.com<\/strong><\/span><\/a> about the documentary HUGH HEFNER: PLAYBOY, ACTIVIST AND REBEL<\/strong>, released to disc this week<\/a> by Phase 4 Films<\/strong>. As we know, the full history of Hef <\/strong>recounts that the founder of the Playboy<\/strong><\/span> empire began his once provocative dallying in the printed word (and pictures) while a student at the University of Illinois<\/strong> during the Forties. Instead of hightailing it for a Chicago <\/strong>mansion upon initial success like a certain smoking jacket-clad magnate, Jason Croft<\/strong> has continued the naughty-but-nice media tradition here in the C-U operating out of his own modest bachelor pad. Just released is his fourteenth issue of Fifties neo-culture activity, Bachelor Pad Magazine<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, while he spins the vintage space-age hits during the Bachelor Pad Radio Show<\/strong><\/a> on WEFT 90.1 FM<\/strong> in Champaign every Friday <\/strong>night starting at 10 p.m.<\/strong> The cool tunes have now made a segue to Yule tunes for the month of December, which we find pleasant listening at the Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong> if we find ourselves stuck indoors getting down to business. No, the other <\/em>business as in the business we’re conducting right now. Perv<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the comforting hush after long days of work, we kept the television time to a minimum but soon it will be necessary to restore movie nights at HQ. We\u2019re not talking any <\/em>random movies, of course, but fresh visions and old favorites that will inform the MICRO-FILM<\/strong> and C-U Confidential<\/strong> we hope to have in store for you, dearest readers, throughout 2011.
