Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<br \/>\nWe\u2019re In It to Print It!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Alright, folks, it\u2019s time to dig our heels in the dirt so we don\u2019t fly away high as a kite from sucking in all those ink and toner fumes we\u2019re bound to encounter while creating good reading for you \u2013 <em>IN PRINT!<\/em> Even though it may seem a <em>tad <\/em>anticlimactic since we\u2019ve never quite shaken off the desire to issue self-made tangible literature (a-<em>hem<\/em>, <a title=\"Zine of Our Scene :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?page_id=144\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>C-U Confidential<\/strong><\/a>), we\u2019ve decided to put even more paper back into <strong>Paper Opteryx<\/strong> and participate in \u201c<strong>2011: The Revenge of Print!<\/strong>\u201d <a title=\"&quot;2011: The Revenge of Print!&quot; begins :: Atomic Books Weblog\" href=\"http:\/\/atomicbooksblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/2011-revenge-of-prints-begins.html\" target=\"_blank\">A movement launched under the watchful eye<\/a> of<strong> Baltimore<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Atomic Books<\/strong>, one of the lynchpins through which \u2018zine culture erupted in the Nineties, \u201c2011:RoP\u201d encourages D.I.Y. editors and artists who published in the past to cough up at least one brand-new physical title this calendar year. Presumably, Atomic and their co-sponsors, including <strong>Microcosm Publishing, Quimby\u2019s Bookstore<\/strong> in <strong>Chicago<\/strong>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Razorcake<\/strong><\/span> punk \u2018zine, the <strong>Toronto Zine Library<\/strong>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Xerography Debt<\/strong><\/span> \u2018zine, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Zine World<\/strong><\/span> \u2018zine, will figure out unique ways to parlay the hoped-for critical mass of fresh material into the public consciousness, for <a title=\"&quot;2011: The Revenge of Print!&quot; Page @ Facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=115370015178929&amp;v=info\" target=\"_blank\">nearly 200 voices have pledged to (intellectually) put out for the cause<\/a>. Yes, believers, we know we\u2019ve been loosely promising a new <strong>MF <\/strong>for some time but with this extravaganza simmering before all of us we simply decided, \u201cEh, now\u2019s as good a time as any!\u201d You will most likely see the RoP \u201cscissors\u201d emblem on <strong>CUZine #5<\/strong> in April,\u00a0 but this new <strong>MF <\/strong>will serve as our formal contribution to the movement. Soon we\u2019ll reveal a release timetable as well as hints at contents, although we\u2019ll probably scale it back enough from <strong>MF 7 <\/strong>that it will <em>not <\/em>serve as the \u201clost\u201d eighth issue that should have come out in 2006. Game on!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 3em; text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>EXHIBITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At long last, <a title=\"Dreamscape Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamscapecinema.com\/index-dsc.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dreamscape Cinema<\/strong> of <\/a><strong><a title=\"Dreamscape Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamscapecinema.com\/index-dsc.html\" target=\"_blank\">Champaign<\/a> <\/strong>will present the <strong>World Premiere<\/strong> of its fourth official feature production, <a title=\"DISPOSABLE :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dispmovie.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>DISPOSABLE<\/strong><\/a>, later tonight, <strong>Thursday, January 13, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, at the <strong>Canopy Club, 708 S. The dark drama about a seemingly paranoid foster home teenager named Riley who believes scam artists and killers are attempting to murder her stars newcomer <strong>Skye Marcia<\/strong> in the lead role along with <strong>Scott Dunn<\/strong> (<strong>TEAM SPITZ<\/strong>), <strong>Sierra Peters<\/strong> (<strong>SHEEBA<\/strong>), <strong>Francesca Vetrano<\/strong> (<strong>JUST VISITING<\/strong>), <strong>David Leonard<\/strong> (<strong>BARBERSHOP 2<\/strong>), and <strong>David Fine<\/strong> (<strong>THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS<\/strong>). Ticket price will cost $6, and Dreamscape equates the content to a PG-13 rating in their press release. The 15th annual KCFF, combining the forces of the old <strong>Kansas City Jubilee Film Festival<\/strong> and <strong>FilmFest KC<\/strong>, will feature programs of international and independent works along with a \u201cHeartland Division\u201d populated with <strong>Missouri\/Kansas<\/strong> cinema and a \u201cCinemaJAZZ\u201d showcase filled with films inspired by jazz music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Second, the deadline for entering the 5th annual <a title=\"Iowa Independent Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"www.iowaindie.org\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Iowa Independent Film Festival<\/strong><\/a> in <strong>Clear Lake, IA<\/strong>, is <strong>Tuesday, May 31<\/strong>, and organizers are looking for \u201cfull length features, full length documentaries, documentary shorts, short subjects (art films\/music videos\/experimental), and student projects.\u201d This year\u2019s IIFF will take place <strong>July 15-17<\/strong> in lakeside venues and include seminars, speaking sessions, an awards banquet, and multiple screenings of selections. The full-color, <strong>Beverly Hills<\/strong>-based festival circuit publication aims to \u201cdiscover, showcase, and celebrate the work of today\u2019s up-and-comers and established professionals\u201d by programming shorts, features, animations, music videos, Web content, and artistic new media in this event taking place <strong>February 24-27<\/strong>, presumably close to home in <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong> with <a title=\"IFQ Film &amp; New Media Festival @ Independent Film Quarterly\" href=\"http:\/\/independentfilmquarterly.net\/enter-ifqs-film-and-new-media-festival.html\" target=\"_blank\">what little we could glean from their Web site<\/a>.
