Not only that, we\u2019ll join the 5\/500 club shortly thereafter when we post for the 500th time. We\u2019re unsure quite how astounding an achievement this <em>really <\/em>is, but at the least it\u2019s proof positive that we\u2019re bound, determined, and stubborn enough to keep <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>afloat for your entertainment and education. That said, we\u2019re in a take-and-give mood here at the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong>. Starting right after the 25th, when we publish your humble editor\u2019s annual \u201c<strong>In My Backyard<\/strong>\u201d essay, we\u2019d like to feature <em>your <\/em>words about living <em>la vida cinema<\/em> in <strong>MICRO-FILM Country<\/strong>! <a title=\"Write to C-U Blogfidential!\" href=\"mailto:cuconfidential@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\">Please send us no more than 2,000 words total<\/a> describing <strong>five significant movie milestones you\u2019ve encountered in or near the C-U during the past five years<\/strong>! Independent Film Festival<\/strong><\/a> which will take place <strong>March 3-13<\/strong> in the nation\u2019s capital. We hope this will be only the first of many play dates worldwide for the production, created completely in Champaign-Urbana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 3em; text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>PRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">An e-mail update issued by the <strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong> club at the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> listed information about a spring semester \u201cindependent study\u201d through <a title=\"Krannert Art Museum, UIUC :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kam.illinois.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Krannert Art Museum<\/strong><\/a> involving the video recording of \u201cseveral museum events for museum Web site, <strong>Facebook<\/strong>, <strong>YouTube<\/strong>, and other public relation needs. The candidate will work closely with museum staff to design, develop, and present the final product.\u201d Videos will provide a \u201csignificant record\u201d of KAM\u2019s 50th anniversary year in operation. We finally know about extras, which will include a filmmakers\u2019 commentary track, a separate cast commentary, a making-of featurette, and the short adventure <strong>PRESS START: BIO-HAPHAZARD<\/strong>, with more goodies soon to be announced. Amusingly, the press release encourages fans to stage <strong>PRESS START 2<\/strong> viewing parties and send the filmmakers evidence (e.g., photos) for posting on the Internet. We highly doubt your humble editor will allow such a throw-down to take place at <strong>MFHQ <\/strong>but it <em>does <\/em>sound fun. What sounds even <em>more <\/em>fun to our ears, but is not even alluded to in the update, is a <strong>PRESS START 2<\/strong> local theatrical premiere! More immediate are the needs of the 18th annual <a title=\"Chicago Underground Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cuff.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Chicago Underground Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, presented by <strong>IFP\/Chicago<\/strong>, for which the regular submission deadline passes next <strong>Tuesday, February 1<\/strong>, with the late deadline coming on <strong>Tuesday, March 15<\/strong>. CUFF will \u201cconfront the tired, the market-driven, and the predictable\u201d at the <strong>Gene Siskel Film Center<\/strong> in <strong>Chicago <\/strong>from <strong>June 2-9<\/strong>. While experimental work has a home at CUFF, it is the exclusive province of the <a title=\"Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival @ Chicago Filmmakers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagofilmmakers.org\/onion_fest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival<\/strong><\/a>, sponsored by <strong>Chicago Filmmakers<\/strong>, which will stage its 23rd annual edition <strong>June 23-26<\/strong> at CF and other venues. The mission of Onion City is to offer \u201ca wide variety of contemporary experimental works, focused on artistic excellence but also with an eye towards representing differing styles, forms, and nationalities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Last but not least, the 17th annual <strong>Brainwash <\/strong>\u201cDrive-In Bike-In Walk-In\u201d <strong>Movie Festival<\/strong> will drop independent movie madness on <strong>Oakland, CA<\/strong>, in <strong>August<\/strong>.
