Lo and behold, last week&#8217;s listings confirmed the suspicion that <strong><a title=\"Dreamscape Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamscapecinema.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dreamscape Cinema<\/a><\/strong> of <strong>Champaign<\/strong>\u00a0was moving quickly towards production on yet another feature film. Paid positions to be filled include <strong>Production Designer, Key Grip, Grip, 1st Assistant Director, Sound Mixer, FX Coordinator<\/strong>, and <strong>Make-up\/Hair<\/strong>, according to a post which lists <strong>Sunday, August 3<\/strong>, as the start date.\u00a0Readers should <a title=\"PANTHER ISLAND crew call @ Mandy.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mandy.com\/1\/jobs3.cfm?v=28703920\" target=\"_blank\">check out the item &#8220;Misc. Dept. Heads for Feature&#8221;<\/a> if interested in applying for work on the show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Over lunch earlier this year, Dreamscape president <strong>Robin Christian<\/strong>\u00a0pitched <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong>\u00a0on an idea about characters dealing with crime and a rogue panther in a downtrodden urban setting. An e-mail sent yesterday from Christian to <strong>CUBlog<\/strong>\u00a0verifies that this is the project\u00a0shooting next month. However, as the tentative title <strong>PANTHER ISLAND<\/strong> implies, the setting has obviously shifted to something a little more &#8230; tropical.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I guess if the Dreamscape drama <strong>CRAB ORCHARD<\/strong> can pass off <strong>West Side\u00a0Park<\/strong> as <strong>NYC<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Central Park<\/strong>, then a judicious blend of location photography, crack editing, and movie magic could sell viewers on this new geographical illusion. (Sure, <strong>PANTHER PENINSULA<\/strong> might be a little bit easier to achieve in land-locked <strong>Champaign County<\/strong>, but how dorky does <em>that<\/em> sound?) I&#8217;m much more worried about the techniques needed to pull off the show&#8217;s ferocious feline, especially in the wake of all those recent\u00a0low-budget creature features that have appeared on <strong>Sci-Fi Channel<\/strong> and home video featuring too-obvious CGI beasts.
