Following a screening of his new documentary <strong>17 PATHS TO ENLIGHTENMENT<\/strong> at <strong>Unit One\/Allen Hall<\/strong> on Thursday night, Marx will speak and present selections from his recent work tomorrow, <strong>Sunday, September 7, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, at the <strong>Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon, Urbana, IL<\/strong>. Admission will be $8.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Marx has amassed a sizeable filmography under his <strong>Warrior Educational Films<\/strong> banner in addition to <strong>HOOP DREAMS<\/strong>,\u00a0the lauded <strong><a title=\"Kartemquin Films :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kartemquin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kartemquin Films<\/a><\/strong> documentary about inner city high school basketball players in <strong>Chicago<\/strong>. Mostly non-fiction,\u00a0the Warrior catalogue\u00a0exhibits a yearning for societal improvement and open-minded exploration, such as with\u00a0<strong>ENLIGHTENMENT<\/strong>, about a journey to the Buddhist mecca <strong>Zanskar<\/strong> in <strong>Tibet<\/strong>, and <strong>NEW AMERICAN HEROES<\/strong>, a companion piece to <strong>HOOP DREAMS<\/strong> (1994)\u00a0and <strong>BOYS TO MEN?<\/strong> (2004) that tracks relationships between urban teenagers and adult mentors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Other Marx productions include <strong>SAVING THE SPHINX<\/strong> (1997), <strong>A HOOP DREAMS REUNION<\/strong> (1995), <strong>HIGHER GOALS<\/strong> (1992), <strong>OUT OF THE SILENCE<\/strong> (1991), and the found footage experiments\u00a0<strong>HOUSE OF UNAMERICAN ACTIVITIES<\/strong> (1984) and <strong>DREAM DOCUMENTARY<\/strong> (1981). Most have played television outlets such as <strong>PBS<\/strong> and <strong>The Learning Channel<\/strong> as well as numerous film festivals. His sole feature-length narrative, <strong>THE UNSPOKEN<\/strong> (1999), is dedicated to the late short film distributor <strong>Ron Epple<\/strong>, a contemporary of Marx during the Seventies in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>.
