Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<br \/>\nTalk, Talking, Walk, Walking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The past two weeks have been interesting for us at the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong>, although not necessarily in the mysterious confines of <strong>MFHQ <\/strong>itself, as we\u2019ve communicated with a good number of friends and neighbors about their projects in various <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> locales as well as virtual environments. At <strong>Aroma Caf\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>Ed <\/strong>and <strong>Meagan Glaser<\/strong> of <strong>Dark Maze Studios<\/strong> talked <strong>PRESS START 2<\/strong>, Japanese pop culture, and annoying toothaches. At <strong>Guido\u2019s<\/strong>, <strong>Luke Boyce<\/strong> and <strong>Brett Hays<\/strong> of S<strong>hatterglass Studios<\/strong> discussed <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> jobs, \u201c<strong>Ebertfest<\/strong>\u201d possibilities, <strong>FINDING VIRGINIA<\/strong> realities, and potential expansions into propagating film culture in the C-U. At <strong>Caf\u00e9 Kopi<\/strong>, <strong>Chris <\/strong>and <strong>Anne Lukeman<\/strong> of <strong>Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions<\/strong> reminisced about <strong>ONCE UPON A TIME IN 1972<\/strong>, meeting crazy deadlines, and establishing a formal boutique production business. At <strong>Mike \u2018n Molly\u2019s<\/strong>, <strong>Colin Price<\/strong> divulged the downlow on <strong>RED LIGHT,<\/strong> \u201cThe Swann Saga\u201d Web series co-created with <strong>Sasan Shabrou<\/strong>, bad karaoke singing, and even worse-sounding Hollywood releases coming this spring and summer. At <strong>Prairie Production Group<\/strong>, <strong>Mike Trippiedi<\/strong> updated on <strong>AMBER ROSE<\/strong> festival progress and financial hassles. In the English building at UIUC, <strong>Beanz Ramirez<\/strong> provided <strong>SNOWBOUND <\/strong>details while other <strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong> members pitched project ideas. At the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong>, owner <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong> revealed numerous upcoming first-runs, revivals, special events, and <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> nuggets. Back at Kopi, <strong>Mike Boedicker<\/strong> and <strong>Bill Kephart<\/strong> of <strong>Roselawn Productions<\/strong> brought up <strong>REVOLTING <\/strong>and a new full-length screenplay. On <strong>Facebook<\/strong>, <strong>Thomas Nicol<\/strong> of <strong>Unfocused Films<\/strong> uploaded fresh looks at <strong>THE WINDOW INTO TIME<\/strong> special effects, while supporting actor <strong>Michael Kilcullen<\/strong> took time out of a <strong>Jupiter\u2019s<\/strong> pizza run to describe his scenes in the same. Via e-mail, <strong>Skip Huston<\/strong> of the <strong>Avon Theater<\/strong> unloaded candid comments about movie distribution practices. Maybe most definitively of all, <strong>Tim Ro, Sean O\u2019Leary, Polly Bland<\/strong>, and others shared with your humble editor the experience of making Ro\u2019s dramatic short film, <strong>THE CONVERSATIONIST<\/strong>, at <strong>Pekara Bakery &amp; Bistro<\/strong>. Do we need <em>any <\/em>further illustration that the hardy souls providing the real-world backbone to the movies of Champaign, Urbana, and the cities beyond simply kick ass? Stick with us, comrades, and you\u2019ll <em>get some<\/em> on a weekly basis if you know what\u2019s good for you!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 3em;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MEETINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Keep in mind that on <strong>Tuesday, February 15, 7 p.m., <a title=\"Champaign Movie Makers @ Yahoo! Groups\" href=\"http:\/\/movies.groups.yahoo.com\/group\/champaignmoviemakers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Champaign Movie Makers<\/a><\/strong> will meet at <strong>Class Act Interactive, 114 S. Neil St., Champaign<\/strong>, to afford area filmmakers and talent an opportunity to discuss and join forces in the making of independent cinema in the area. The highlight of this month\u2019s meeting is \u201c<strong>Open Projector Night<\/strong>\u201d for which the group invites attendees to bring DVDs and flash drives with short films and trailers or clips from feature films that they have been involved with! And on <strong>Wednesday, February 9<\/strong>, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Herald &amp; Review<\/strong><\/span> deepened the pit in our stomachs by <a title=\"AMC Theaters closes Paris, Charleston screens :: The Herald &amp; Review\" href=\"http:\/\/www.herald-review.com\/business\/local\/article_cfc0312c-340b-11e0-ab0e-001cc4c03286.html\" target=\"_blank\">confirming the <strong>AMC <\/strong>theater chain has closed the two-screen <strong>Paris (IL) Theatre<\/strong><\/a> as of last Sunday, mere weeks after shuttering the <strong>Will Rogers Theatre<\/strong> in downtown <strong>Charleston<\/strong>. DRECK<\/strong>; this one hails from <strong>Iowa <\/strong>and is emceed by \u201c<strong>Marlena Midnite<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>Robyn Graves<\/strong>\u201d who appeared during breaks in the Sixties junk food cinema classic, <strong>THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN\u2019T DIE<\/strong>. (Conspicuously, <strong>MIDNITE <\/strong>presented this \u201cpublic domain\u201d title letterboxed <em>and <\/em>packing ahead-of-its-time gore effects long cut out, possibly using <a title=\"THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE :: Synapse Films\" href=\"http:\/\/synapse-films.com\/dvds\/brain-that-wouldnt-die-the-special-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\">the DVD release by our friends at <strong>Synapse Films<\/strong><\/a> as their source. Naughty, naughty!) To wrap it up, yesterday <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">SmilePolitely<\/span>.com<\/strong> pointed out just enough fictional references to <strong>Fighting Illini<\/strong> sports to leave a high calorie, low flavor taste in our mouths: baseball in the new <a title=\"TRAFFIC LIGHT features fictional UI alum :: SmilePolitely.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.smilepolitely.com\/splog\/new_show_on_fox_features_hypothetical_uiuc_alum\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>FOX <\/strong>dramedy <strong>TRAFFIC LIGHT<\/strong><\/a> and football in the <a title=\"MODERN FAMILY features fictional UI alum :: IlliniHQ.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.illinihq.com\/news\/football\/2009\/10\/19\/abc_show_shines_unusual_light_on_illini_football\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ABC <\/strong>hit <strong>MODERN FAMILY<\/strong><\/a>. No telling from us what our first opus might entail, but we <em>could <\/em>hint that one particular project would involve a \u201clost\u201d event taping from last summer ushered to completion as a DVD presentation. The nature of the eventual product is \u201cfor <strong>P.O.O.<\/strong> eyes only\u201d and those in the drunken know should rejoice not only in the possibilities, but the actuality that we\u2019ll finish the damn thing<em> <\/em>.
