Article in Champaign daily The News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong> about Playboy<\/span><\/strong> content producer Greg Johnson<\/strong> previewing the upcoming “mobisode” series INTERNS<\/strong> for University of Illinois<\/strong> undergraduate students at Lincoln Hall<\/strong>. (Remember that the direct link to\u00a0this <\/em>article will expire after<\/em> Wednesday, November 26<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

Editor’s note:<\/em>\u00a0Not much to say about this one, except:<\/p>\n

1. The event is just another example of the gajillions of on-campus film\/media\u00a0shows that go underpromoted to the Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> community, thereby giving the Champaign-Urbana community little chance to turn out and experience that which is being featured. The University of Illinois<\/strong> and its departments need to remedy this.<\/p>\n

2. I find it odd that the group of professionals present to discuss INTERNS<\/strong>, which chronicles the experiences of gofers working in the New York City<\/strong> offices of Playboy<\/span><\/strong> magazine, included one Lisa Nakamura<\/strong>, described in the article as a UIUC “professor of communication, Asian-American Studies, and gender and women’s studies.” You mean to tell me that she had nothing topical to say about (or against) the series, given its direct relationship with Playboy<\/span>? Yes, odd. We’ll chalk this one up to playing nice with famous alumnus Hugh Hefner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. I guess Jay Rosenstein<\/strong> made the correct call in his most recent letter <\/a>to C-U Blogfidential<\/strong>. The article states that UIUC\u00a0was one of three colleges awarded\u00a0a sneek peek at INTERNS<\/strong>. The others were the University of Southern California<\/strong> – a pick that\u00a0is\u00a0contextualized in this prior post <\/a>– and New York University<\/strong>. Curiously, they house two of the top film schools in the United States. UIUC is\u00a0the lame duck here because it has no<\/em> film school, and a remedy can only begin with the College of Media<\/strong> pulling\u00a0its collective head\u00a0out of the sand and yanking open some purse strings. What, you thought I wouldn’t pick out that<\/em> unrelated correlation?<\/p>\n

4. I am happy to report that this is only the second time in two months and 20+ posts that we’ve relied on a News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong> article as a springboard for discussion. You may applaud when ready.<\/p>\n

There was<\/em> much to say about this one, wasn’t there?<\/p>\n
