Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<br \/>\nThere\u2019s Something Happening Here, That\u2019s Relatively Clear<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"C-U Biz-en-sc\u00e8ne: 04.13.2011 :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=3182\" target=\"_blank\">Make sure to read our \u201cdesperation post\u201d from yesterday<\/a> which attempted to regain ground on keeping up with the movies of <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond, featuring several fresh news items in addition to the following:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"> <strong>Jennifer Bechtel<\/strong>, a co-writer of <strong>LEADING LADIES<\/strong>, will audition child actors this <strong>Sunday, April 17<\/strong>, for a teaser trailer she will use to raise awareness and funds for her next independent feature, scheduled to shoot in summer 2012. Per her <strong>Facebook<\/strong> posting, the new project \u201cis GLBT sympathetic coming-of-age story about a teenage girl and her wild independent filmmaking family. For the kid characters, I am looking for young actors with confidence and maturity [that] are willing to have some fun with their roles. No experience necessary.\u201d Bechtel is looking for \u201ca young white boy, approximately 6-8 years old, and a young black girl, [also] approximately 6-8 years old\u201d for the trailer shoot taking place this summer, explaining that race factors into their scenes. Parents can contact Bechtel with questions or to schedule an appointment for their child at <strong>jmbechtel [at] sbcglobal [dot] net<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"> Also on <strong>Sunday, April 17<\/strong>, sneak preview scenes from the <strong>Bloomington-Normal<\/strong> indie feature <strong>USING <\/strong>will be shown during a multi-artist performance at <strong>Gregor Salon<\/strong> in downtown Bloomington between <strong>12<\/strong> and <strong>5 p.m.<\/strong> Producer and featured actress <strong>Kymberly Harris<\/strong> of <strong>TheatresCool<\/strong> will present the clips during the event, sponsored by the <strong>Illinois State University Creative Writing Program and Department of English<\/strong>. Joining Harris are poets <strong>Adrian Matjeka<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Clark<\/strong>, installation artist <strong>Brian Collier<\/strong>, dancer-choreographer <strong>Tanya Picard<\/strong>, singer-songwriter <strong>Eva Hunter<\/strong>, and the host, landscape artist <strong>Harold Gregor<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Current <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> undergraduate <strong>A.J. Christensen<\/strong>, who has helped with several recent local films including <strong>ONCE UPON A TIME IN 1972<\/strong>, will explore <strong>Disney<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cBlue Sky\u201d method of generating story during the next <strong>Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong> meeting at <strong>Class Act Interactive<\/strong> in downtown Champaign. Christensen\u2019s group exercise will begin at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong> and the monthly get-together will finish out with a pitch session where members can announce needs for their upcoming summer\/fall projects;<\/li>\n<li>UIUC alum and former <strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong> veep <strong>Andrew Nygard<\/strong>, responsible for the two student-made \u201cMidwesterns\u201d <strong>ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE MIDWEST<\/strong> and <strong>THE BALLAD OF DIRTY DON<\/strong>, will return to his C-U stomping grounds this June and July to film a short called <strong>THE GIANT COMMUNIST<\/strong> and promises it will pertain to \u201cexploring Communism and very tall people.\u201d Auditions will take place <strong>Sunday, May 1, 5 p.m.<\/strong> in <strong>Room 104<\/strong> of the <strong>English Building<\/strong> on the <strong>Main Quad<\/strong>; queries can be forwarded to <strong>GiantCommunist [at] gmail [dot] com<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>As local favorite <strong>BEDTIME FOR TIMMY<\/strong> by <strong>Thomas Nicol<\/strong> and <strong>Becky Griesheimer<\/strong> hit all the correct beats at the <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> last weekend, it also entertained a more horror-centric crowd at the <strong>Imagi-Movies Festival<\/strong> in <strong>Beverly Hills, CA<\/strong>, sponsored by the resurrected <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Famous Monsters of Filmland<\/strong><\/span> magazine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We\u2019ll save not-as-timely updates for the next couple of <strong>Biz <\/strong>blasts.
