We\u2019ve set up opportunities over the years for journalists to submit unique <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>discussion about <a title=\"Roger Ebert's Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ebertfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, returning for its 13th annual outing at the <strong>Virginia Theater<\/strong> in downtown <strong>Champaign, Illinois<\/strong>, but with little to show for it. <strong>Anthony Zoubek<\/strong> provided our only comprehensive piece a few years ago \u2013 during which <a title=\"Article du C-U: Ebertfest X, pt.1 :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=365\" target=\"_blank\">he dissected the Ebertfest mystique as well as presentations of <strong>HAMLET, MISHIMA, HULK<\/strong>, and <strong>THE CELL<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 yet even then, personal matters prevented him from properly closing out the series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We honestly wonder how superfluous a <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>blow-by-blow of Ebertfest would be at this point. <a title=\"Ebertfest bloggers to report en force :: The News-Gazette\" href=\"http:\/\/www.news-gazette.com\/blogs\/art-and-about\/2011-04\/ebertfest-2011-wont-be-short-bloggers.html\" target=\"_blank\">You can see from this <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>News-Gazette<\/strong><\/span> post<\/a> that the <strong>UIUC College of Media<\/strong> sponsored event has <em>no <\/em>shortage of <strong>Roger Ebert<\/strong> anointed bloggers and writers \u201cembedded\u201d in the Virginia audience, ready to provide instant critique\/promotion on top of the wordage generated by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">N-G<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Chicago Sun-Times<\/strong><\/span>. As well, our own springtime activities have proliferated to a point where we\u2019re occupied right up through Opening Night, so we have to pick and choose what to spend time on for readers\u2019 Web consumption along with our non-Web responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Similar to last year, 2011 zapped us repeatedly like \u201cChambanah the Three-Headed Filmmonster,\u201d represented by our involvement in the second <strong>New Art Film Festival, C-U Confidential<\/strong> #5, and an end-of-April choice between presence at Ebertfest and\/or the <strong>Midwest Zine Fest<\/strong> tomorrow at <strong>Urbana<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Independent Media Center<\/strong> and\/or concurrent local events. The multiplicity is a gift; time management has been our Achilles\u2019 heel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ebertfest is a vital force in the movie culture of Champaign, Urbana, and the cities beyond. Therefore, <strong>CUBlog <\/strong><em>should <\/em>give it due attention even though we consider it a part of the whole and not the annual cinema pinnacle most Ebertfest attendees probably <em>think<\/em> it is. Soon you will see where our hearts have been leading us, considering how much both <strong>CUBlog\/CUZine<\/strong> and <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> take pains to champion the little guy or gal, although it should <em>not <\/em>discount the efforts by Ebert himself to champion a select few little gals and guys through his festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At the conclusion of this series we\u2019ll come back to Ebertfest 2011, but we hope you will enjoy the ensuing \u201creprint\u201d of your humble editor\u2019s stab at describing his Ebertfest experience during the third occurrence on <strong>April 25-29, 2001<\/strong>.
