{"id":36,"date":"2006-03-19T11:49:16","date_gmt":"2006-03-19T17:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=36"},"modified":"2016-03-10T22:35:43","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T04:35:43","slug":"crab-orchard-draws-1300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=36","title":{"rendered":"CRAB ORCHARD draws 1,300"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>From March 15, 2006:<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_craborchshowA.jpg\" alt=\"The Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Almost three years after being filmed in various locales in Champaign County, <strong>CRAB ORCHARD<\/strong> finally made its public debut on <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>, <strong>March 15<\/strong>, to a near sell-out crowd at Champaign&#8217;s Virginia Theatre.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Balcony of the Virginia Theatre\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_craborchshowB.jpg\" alt=\"Balcony of the Virginia Theatre\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Originally opening in 1921, the <strong>Virignia Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0has survived the transition from vaudeville house to <a title=\"The Virginia Theatre :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thevirginia.org\/main.htm\" target=\"_blank\">a modern program of movies, musicals, concerts, and special events.<\/a> For film buffs, the 1,525-seat Virginia offers a regular schedule of second-run, contemporary Hollywood efforts as well as classics, while hosting the popular <strong>Roger Ebert&#8217;s Overlooked Film Festival<\/strong> every April.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Robin Peters, writer\/producer of CRAB ORCHARD\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_craborchshowC.jpg\" alt=\"Robin Peters, writer\/producer of CRAB ORCHARD\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">(<em>Above left<\/em>) <strong>CRAB ORCHARD<\/strong> writer\/producer <strong>Robin Christian Peters<\/strong> entertains the crowd before the show. Hmm&#8230;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Robin Peters introduces CRAB ORCHARD\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_craborchshowD.jpg\" alt=\"Robin Peters introduces CRAB ORCHARD\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">After an introduction by <strong>Ronda Proctor<\/strong>, Peters thanked those in the audience (and there were many) for helping make <strong>CRAB ORCHARD<\/strong>, a production of his Champaign-based company, <strong>Dreamscape Cinema<\/strong>. Preceding the feature presentation was a series of trailers for other <a title=\"Dreamscape Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamscapecinema.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dreamscape Cinema productions<\/a>, including <strong>LINK<\/strong>, <strong>DISCONNECT<\/strong>, <strong>ANGST<\/strong>, and <strong>TOXIN<\/strong>, which have yet to see release.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Ruby Handler and Edward Asner star in CRAB ORCHARD\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog%20Art\/cu_craborchshowF.jpg\" alt=\"Ruby Handler and Edward Asner star in CRAB ORCHARD\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>CRAB ORCHARD<\/strong> is directed by <strong>Michael J. Jacobs<\/strong> and stars <strong>Ruby Handler<\/strong> (<em>above left<\/em>) as career woman Kim Thomas, who leaves New York City with her son Clay (<strong>Dylan Patton<\/strong>) to move back home with her father (<strong>Edward Asner<\/strong>, <em>above right<\/em>) in small-town Crab Orchard, Illinois. Left behind is her husband Jim (<strong>Judge Reinhold<\/strong>), a NYC firefighter who has had trouble relating to his family after battling a building collapse during 9\/11 that claimed the life of Kim&#8217;s brother, Dwayne (Robin Peters).
