\nIt\u2019s Time for CUBiz: The Short Form!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Copious amounts of C-U Confidential<\/strong> copies walked away with lucky conventioneers who visited the tables of Bachelor Pad Magazine<\/strong><\/span> and Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions<\/strong> at last weekend\u2019s Wizard World Chicago Comic-Con<\/strong>, during which your humble editor reconnected with past contributors to our semi-empire: comics author Eric Rampson<\/strong>, who wrote for MICRO-FILM 2<\/strong>, and sculptor\/artist Jennifer Gutowski<\/strong>, who appeared in MF 1<\/strong> as our first-ever micro-femme<\/em>! We had a blast visiting the ol\u2019 pop culture stomping grounds and thank Java <\/strong>of BPM<\/span> and Chris <\/strong>and Anne Lukeman<\/strong> of Kill Vampire Lincoln for allowing us presence at their displays. Right now we\u2019re back to work downstate, distributing the remaining gratis <\/em>copies of CUZine<\/strong> issue 5<\/strong> around the C-U as well as resuming work on the C-U Confidential \u201999<\/strong> special issue. Watch next week for the first official word on CU99<\/strong>, including a street date!<\/p>\n

ITEM OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

While we conquered Chicago<\/strong>, question marks popped into place over many a concerned movie-goer\u2019s head on Sunday afternoon when Art Theater<\/strong><\/a> operator Sanford Hess<\/strong> gave a presentation outlining the best bets for her survival. Taking into account the major upcoming expenditure, a $75,000 upgrade to all-digital projection that is necessary once the studios eliminate film prints from their distribution process, Hess\u2019 recommended path is transferring ownership to a community run co-op in which membership fees float the costs. CUBlog <\/strong>is choosing not to opine publicly about the ramifications until we\u2019ve had a chance to discuss it with Hess and other trusted principals in the milieu, but we direct you towards immediate food-for-thought already provided by Melissa Merlie<\/strong> of the News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and Jeremiah Stanley<\/strong> of Smile Politely<\/strong><\/a>. We\u2019ll also post Hess\u2019 own words about the matter by Monday, August 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
