C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> salutes the efforts of director Linda McElroy<\/strong> and her staff in perpetuating the Route 66 International Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, which will present its 10th annual program of quality independent work from the world over beginning tomorrow, Friday, September 16<\/strong>, and wrapping up mid-evening Sunday, September 18<\/strong>. All screenings will take place in the LRS Theatre<\/strong> of the Hoogland Center for the Arts<\/a>, 420 S. Sixth St.<\/strong>, downtown Springfield, IL<\/strong>, including an opening night party with attending filmmakers! This includes the crew behind local comedy REVOLTING<\/strong>, the first of numerous Illinois<\/strong>-made features and shorts to represent throughout the schedule. One off-site event will occur at the pre-Civil War<\/strong> house maintained in honor<\/a> of early 20th century poet and author Vachel Lindsay<\/strong> (1879-1931), among whose works is a landmark in cinema discourse from 1915, The Art of the Moving Picture<\/strong><\/span>. Thanks to a timely FB status by Confidential agent Benjamin Stone<\/strong> regarding the passing of Project Gutenberg<\/strong> founder Michael S. Hart<\/strong>, we learned of a post on silent movie Weblog The Bioscope<\/strong><\/span><\/a> which links to several PG public domain e-books including Moving Image<\/span>. This illustrates one major <\/em>plus about Hart\u2019s legacy despite our rant from last Friday \u2013 the wide availability of vintage writing that might not be considered salable in print form and otherwise lost forever.<\/p>\n

So now <\/em>the big question looms. \u201cDo we road trip to the state capital for Route 66 and support our friends\/honor the anniversary\/have a grand time, or do we simply trek across the C-U for the IMC Film Festival<\/strong> and support our friends\/volunteer our help\/save gas\/have a grand time?\u201d Of course, CUBlog <\/strong>has only <\/em>one answer. \u201cSome way, somehow, attend both <\/em>if you can swing it for the sake of local art, independent film, and general good will.\u201d Go make your humble editor proud, dearest readers!<\/p>\n
