LEADING LADIES<\/strong> is a dance\/musical\/dramedy (in the vein of DIRTY DANCING<\/strong> and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE<\/strong>) that weaves the tale of an overbearing mother and her two daughters through the vehicle of ballroom dance. The film stars Benji Schwimmer<\/strong>, Season Two winner of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE<\/strong>, as well as long time SYTYCD <\/strong>choreographer and renowned Latin Ballroom World Champion Melanie LaPatin<\/strong>. The film\u2019s \u201cgrocery store musical\u201d scene also stars several SYTYCD <\/strong>finalists including Kherington Payne, Courtney Galiano, Katee Shean, Sara Von Gillern<\/strong>, etc., and features music by Ben Folds<\/strong>\u2019 producer, John Mark Painters<\/strong>. The soundtrack has been garnering rave reviews with songs from Phoenix, Andrew Bird, The Old Ceremony, Alva Leigh, Malena Muyala, Earwig, The Randys, Havilah Rand, Danny Leisure and The Suites<\/strong>, and many, many more!<\/p>\n

LEADING LADIES<\/strong> was shot by veteran cinematographer Peter Biagi<\/strong>, who worked with Robert Altman<\/strong> on THE COMPANY<\/strong> and A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION<\/strong> and is credited as cinematographer on over 40 feature films. Biagi was also the DP for the first season of HBO<\/strong>\u2019s PROJECT GREENLIGHT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film was shot on the RED One camera \u2013 the same camera used for films like PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, THE HOBBIT, DISTRICT 9, WINTER\u2019S BONE<\/strong>, etc. \u2013 at 4K and projects in \u201cscope\u201d aspect ratio (2.39:1). Run time for the entire film, including credits, is 102 minutes.<\/p>\n

Screening History<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In recent months, LEADING LADIES<\/strong> took \u201cBest Narrative Feature (Audience Choice)\u201d at the San Francisco United Film Festival<\/strong>. The week prior, we screened to nearly 900 people in the historic Castro Theater at Frameline International Film Festival<\/strong>. LEADING LADIES<\/strong> also took \u201cBest Picture\u201d at the Palm Beach Women\u2019s International Film Festival<\/strong> and the film screened at Cannes Independent Film Festival<\/strong> and the Marches du Film<\/strong> at Cannes International Film Festival, as well as many other festivals around the world.<\/p>\n

LEADING LADIES<\/strong> premiered in 2010 with an early edit at the Sonoma International Film Festival<\/strong> where it sold out its 250+ seat screening and won a juried Showcase Award. Since then, LEADING LADIES<\/strong> has sold out shows at the Palm Springs International Film Festival<\/strong> (Gala Event, 800 seats over two shows), Starz Denver Film Festival<\/strong> (three sold out shows of 250+), Outfest <\/strong>in Los Angeles (opening weekend, sold out the 600 seat Directors\u2019 Guild of America Theater), NewFest <\/strong>in New York City (sold out two shows of 250+ seats, plus an additional \u201cBest of NewFest\u201d screening), Alexandria Film Festival<\/strong> in Washington, D.C. (sold out 600+ seats), and many more!<\/p>\n
