Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Stayin\u2019 Alive, Part 2: Sanford\u2019s Key<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Recently on <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong>, <a title=\"Art owner lays down the deal :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=3755\" target=\"_blank\">we recounted the somewhat dire scenario<\/a> sketched out by <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong> on what it might take to keep downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong>\u2019s surviving movie house, the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong>, <a title=\"Temporary Cooperative FAQ :: The Art Theater\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecuart.com\/coop.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">operating into the second century of its existence<\/a>. Since then, we\u2019ve talked to Hess personally and agree in theory that forming an Art cooperative, charged with keeping her business interests in check and booking compelling films to light up her screen, is the most feasible option. We also believe his suggestion of hiring a general manager to handle day-by-day functions and movie selection is best for maintaining variety and integrity. We simply hope the individuals who take seats higher up on the Co-Op\u2019s board, now <em>or<\/em> in the future, have the best interests in mind of the Art, our diverse community, and <em>the art of the movies themselves<\/em>. Our non-humble bonus opinion is that candidates might go elsewhere if feeding ego, enhancing social status, and\/or building a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is what you <em>really<\/em> want most out of direct involvement with this particular Co-Op, regardless of what professional value you bring to the table. As imminent voters, we&#8217;ll be happy to keep an eye on you. Thanks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the equally harsh reality of small theaters reliant on <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> product, <strong>CUBlog<\/strong> has reason to believe the twin <strong>Gemini Cinemas<\/strong> of nearby <strong>Villa Grove<\/strong> have closed. The owners posted mid-summer on the Gemini Web site (now inactive) about their intent to sell the business and aim for the smoothest transition possible without interrupting operations, but <a title=\"Gemini Cinemas, Villa Grove, IL :: Business\/Property For Sale :: LoopNet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.loopnet.com\/Listing\/17268594\/17-N-Main-Villa-Grove-IL\/\" target=\"_blank\">this realtor\u2019s posting implies they decided to cut their losses before a suitor could be found<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MICRO-FILM NEWS BLOG BACK FOR ATTACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Although the well went dry a while back, we\u2019ve decided to resume activity on the <a title=\"MICRO-FILM News Blog :: Main Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>MICRO-FILM News Blog<\/strong><\/a> to keep readers abreast of upcoming <strong>MF<\/strong> branded items and complement material appearing in said items and elsewhere. The prior film\u2019s director, <a title=\"Mike Boedicker :: Personal Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boedicker.net\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Mike Boedicker<\/strong> of <strong>Roselawn Productions<\/strong><\/a>, and lead actor, <strong>William Kephart<\/strong>, collaborated on the screenplay for <strong>THE HAUNTED HOUSE<\/strong>, which Boedicker will direct and also co-produce with <strong>Leslie Boedicker<\/strong>. Without giving up the ghost over the plot, so to speak, skeptical high school teacher Tom Wilson (to be played by Kephart) and his pianist wife Claire (C-U theater regular <strong>Joi Hoffsommer<\/strong>) purchase and move into a grandiose house where a mass murder occurred 25 years earlier. Mounting strain is placed on their marriage \u2013 and, implicitly, Claire\u2019s sanity \u2013 as they encounter numerous individuals who \u201chaunt\u201d the premises arguably worse than any supernatural entity. <strong>Johnny Robinson<\/strong> will DP and <strong>Victor Miely<\/strong> record sound for <strong>THE HAUNTED HOUSE<\/strong>, which will feature an intriguing mix of prior Roselawn and C-U movie actors including <strong>Gary Ambler, Jason Asaad, Peter Davis, Barbara Evans, Jonathan Harden, Matt Hester, Steven Keen, Carolyn Kodes-Atkinson, Cara Maurizi, Eric Sizemore<\/strong>, and <strong>Julia Megan Sullivan<\/strong>.
