Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> We Saved You the On-Set List<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hate to admit it, gang, but we almost cheap-jacked this edition of the <strong>Biz<\/strong> since we started compiling it so late yesterday. However, in the course of helping out <strong>Susanna Kline<\/strong> of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Smile Politely<\/span><\/strong> with <a title=\"CU Film Society offers first screenings, workshops :: Smile Politely\" href=\"http:\/\/www.smilepolitely.com\/arts\/cu_film_society_hosts_screenings_and_workshops\/\" target=\"_blank\">her article about the <strong>CU Film Society<\/strong><\/a>, we slapped down some bare-bones information about recent local feature films in a way that forced us to recall one of the major original goals of <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong>. That would be to \u201cwrite the book\u201d about local filmmaking as any movie writer worth their salt might comprehensively chronicle a career, a genre, a movement, a studio history, or \u2013 get this \u2013 the making of a significant film production. All we\u2019ll suggest for the time being is to check out the following shorthand we provided Ms. Kline as a \u201cstatus at a glance\u201d and then imagine if we compiled all the relevant details about <em>everything<\/em> that makes up a sub-cultural scene \u2026 <em>a la<\/em> the movies of Champaign, Urbana, and the cities beyond. Those are different matters for another day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>ITEMS OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Chris Landreth roundtable discussion set for Oct. 30 :: CU Film Society\" href=\"http:\/\/cufilmsociety.org\/2011\/chris-landreth-filmmaking-round-table\/\" target=\"_blank\">One CU Film Society function that we\u2019d like to bring up in advance<\/a> is an hour-long roundtable discussion co-sponsored with the <a title=\"eDream Institute @ NCSA, University of Illinois, U-C\" href=\"http:\/\/edream.illinois.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>eDream Institute<\/strong><\/a> and featuring computer animation <em>auteur<\/em> <strong>Chris Landreth<\/strong> (<strong>THE SPINE, BINGO<\/strong>) on <strong>Sunday, October 30, 2 p.m.<\/strong>, in <strong>Room 1040<\/strong> of the <strong>University of Illinois\u2019 National Center for Supercomputing Applications<\/strong> (NCSA), <strong>1205 W. Clark St., Urbana<\/strong>. A press announcement states that during the free event, Landreth \u201cwill share his filmmaking experiences including organizing contributors and funding independent films and digitally animated short stories. [Landreth\u2019s] artistic style is unique and compelling. It represents a hallmark in psychological personal narrative, an approach he calls \u2018psychorealism.\u2019 He has received an <strong>Academy Award<\/strong> and recently won a <strong>Guggenheim Fellowship<\/strong>, and can share inside stories about these events and their processes.\u201d Make haste to <a title=\"RYAN streaming video :: National Film Board of Canada\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nfb.ca\/film\/ryan\/\" target=\"_blank\">watch the superlative <strong>Oscar<\/strong>-winner <strong>RYAN<\/strong> right here<\/a> if you have never seen it before; in 14 heart-wrenching minutes, Landreth draws parallels between himself, his deceased mother, and the late Canadian animator <strong>Ryan Larkin<\/strong>, a budding virtuoso during the Sixties whose career derailed thanks to heavy alcohol and drug abuse. Landreth earned his Masters in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from UIUC in 1986 and also studied animation at NCSA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In addition, <a title=\"Distinguished Lecture by Chris Landreth :: Computer Science, University of Illinois, U-C\" href=\"http:\/\/illinois.edu\/calendar\/detail\/994?eventId=9561316\" target=\"_blank\">Landreth will deliver a Distinguished Lecture called \u201cUnvalleying the Uncanny\u201d<\/a> on <strong>Monday, October 31, 4 p.m.<\/strong>, in <strong>Room 2405<\/strong> of the <strong>Thomas M.
