Please support the artists and their work, attend screenings and events, and otherwise become active in our esoteric little world!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MFHQ &amp; YOU:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Halloween \u201811: Season of the Glitch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We <em>knew<\/em> it would happen at some point, when enough activity swirled around the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong> that we\u2019d fail to pull our weekly <strong>Biz<\/strong> column out of the proverbial hat. Why are we <em>not<\/em> surprised this finally took place in the week leading up to <strong>Halloween<\/strong>? That said, we could have waited to reboot this Friday with a fresh lowdown on <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> movie culture, but we also realized a handful of key midweek events might be of interest \u2013 including Thursday\u2019s final <a title=\"The Art Theater :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecuart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Art Theater<\/strong><\/a> showing of <strong>TUCKER &amp; DALE VS. EVIL<\/strong> \u2013 thereby warranting the extra effort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If nothing else, we spent more total running time than usual watching movies publicly during October\u2019s end. That\u2019s <em>good<\/em>, right? A trip over to <a title=\"Sleepy Creek Vineyards :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sleepycreekvineyards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sleepy Creek Vineyards<\/strong><\/a> in <strong>Fairmount<\/strong> last <strong>Thursday, October 27<\/strong>, yielded bite-sized frights aplenty during the second annual <strong>Freeky Creek Short Film Festival<\/strong>, during which <strong>Bill Kephart<\/strong> pulled out his <strong>Peter Sellers<\/strong> multi-character playbook and skewed our expectations as the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and an extremely gruff circus clown who calls everyone \u201cBingo.\u201d Our friends at <a title=\"The Psychic Joker :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.psychicjoker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Psychic Joker Entertainment<\/strong><\/a> mixed movies with magic and other seasonal mayhem for 10 days straight at <a title=\"SoDo Theatre :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sodotheatre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>SoDo Theatre<\/strong><\/a> in downtown Champaign; they included the original <strong>NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD<\/strong> on <strong>Sunday, October 30<\/strong>, and the cheeky triad of <strong>THE LAST MAN ON EARTH<\/strong> with <strong>Vincent Price, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE<\/strong> directed by <strong>Ed Wood, Jr.<\/strong>, and <strong>VOYAGE TO A PREHISTORIC PLANET<\/strong> featuring Russian special-effects footage repurposed by <strong>Roger Corman<\/strong>, on <strong>Tuesday, October 25<\/strong>. Returning <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> contributor <strong>Jeff McCoy<\/strong> joined us to take in the <strong>FRIGHT NIGHT<\/strong> remake at the Art on <strong>Wednesday, October 26<\/strong>; fleet-footed and relatively faithful to the 1985 original despite a clever switch in setting to <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>, it nevertheless wallows in camp and iffy CGI animation sold somewhat by a straight-faced cast including <strong>Colin Farrell<\/strong> and <strong>Anton Yelchin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">What filmic frights did <em>you<\/em> encounter leading up to yesterday\u2019s All Hallow\u2019s Eve?
