Thanks!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Stayin\u2019 Alive, Part 5: We Vote for Capital Gains over Punishment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At last, we return to our informal survey touching upon the key components of active movie culture in the area, and it seems leadership roulette is not just affecting <strong>Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong>, the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong>, and the <strong>Route 66 International Film Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Cameron Counts<\/strong> of <strong>Springfield<\/strong> has revealed he will leave his post as president of that city\u2019s <a title=\"Central Illinois Film Commission :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.centralillinoisfilm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Central Illinois Film Commission<\/strong><\/a> after more than two years, anticipating a move to <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong> where he will pursue a screenwriting career. He also announced in a <strong>January 4<\/strong> e-blast that his successors on the Executive Committee will be <strong>Dean Williams<\/strong> as president, <strong>Tabitha Bock<\/strong> as secretary, and<strong> Linda Lou Long<\/strong> as treasurer. While all three have served previously in the organization, they also were the only ones to demonstrate interest in taking (back) official roles according to Counts, who approved the appointments as allowed by the CIFC bylaws. We find that admittance odd and the global lack of interest troubling. Since we\u2019re friendly with CIFC but rarely in their midst due to the driving distance between Springfield and the C-U, it\u2019s not in our best interest to theorize any conspiracies other than to sincerely hope whatever ailed them in the past is the past \u2013 <em>read:<\/em> ugly staff exodus \u2013 and that everybody learned their lesson well. Loosely, the group\u2019s aims have been to provide social and educational opportunities for their members as well as insider hook-ups to professional work, so for the sake of CIFC survival we believe the new-old team needs to bring sparkling fresh ideas <em>and<\/em> even fresher blood to the table. <strong>CUBlog<\/strong> will continue to keep an eye on them, here in the long-range peanut gallery seats of <strong>Champaign County<\/strong>, and trust the <strong>Capital City<\/strong> faithful can wring dividends out of uneven change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>ITEMS OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Champaign Movie Makers @ Yahoo!
