Editor’s note:<\/em>\u00a0I think a lot of people saw the nod coming Richard Jenkins<\/strong>‘ way, for it’s the perfect underdog story –\u00a0a reliable character actor finally lands\u00a0his first\u00a0lead role in a critically acclaimed movie, increasing his visibility and tacking a gold star (if not a golden Oscar<\/strong> statuette) onto his resume. Congratulations, my fellow Titan<\/strong>! I also like how the Ben Marten<\/strong> article skews towards his preference for living in Illinois<\/strong>\u00a0while taking high-profile jobs through a Chicago<\/strong> talent agency. Of course, we can’t underestimate Hollywood<\/strong>‘s magnetic power over\u00a0the young and adventurous, so we’ll see how long Marten’s Midwestern roots anchor him down.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, long-time MICRO-FILM<\/strong> friend Christopher Denham<\/strong>, a young playwright and stage and screen actor who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign<\/strong>\u00a0in 2002, will see his directorial debut HOME MOVIE<\/strong> hit the\u00a0rental shelves of Blockbuster Video<\/strong><\/a> on Tuesday, February 24<\/strong>,\u00a0through IFC Films<\/strong>. We will be discussing this project with Denham in MICRO-FILM 8<\/strong>\u00a0as part of\u00a0a special “C-U Confidential<\/strong>” section covering the recent films of artists who once resided in Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond.<\/p>\n
