From time to time, we search \u2018round the World Wide Web for references to <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> and related properties just to see where the information stream takes us. On occasion we&#8217;re genuinely surprised at what we find, <a title=\"&quot;MICRO-FILM Magazine and C-U Confidential&quot; story :: Explore C-U\" href=\"http:\/\/www.explorecu.org\/items\/show\/212#.Ucp4QsEo6po\" target=\"_blank\">such as this <strong>MICRO-FILM\/C-U Confidential<\/strong> mini-history<\/a> posted right before this year\u2019s <strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong>. Needless to say, we were flattered!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since then we\u2019ve met briefly with <strong>Sarah Christensen<\/strong>, who works for the <strong>College of Fine and Applied Arts<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong>, and <strong>Kara Brehm<\/strong>, at the time a graduate assistant at the <strong>UIUC University Library<\/strong>, about their project <a title=\"Explore C-U :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.explorecu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Explore C-U<\/strong><\/a>, designed to provide citizens and visitors a curated visual history of <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> through photographs, text, maps, and interactive media. <a title=\"Explore C-U: Curating arts, culture, and history :: Smile Politely\" href=\"http:\/\/www.smilepolitely.com\/culture\/explore_c_u_curating_arts_culture_and_history\/\" target=\"_blank\">In this succinct <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Smile Politely<\/span><\/strong> overview<\/a> written by <strong>Lauren Laws<\/strong>, Christensen stresses community members are invited to contribute resources and guidance in developing the \u201ctours\u201d guiding users \u2018round the C-U and outlying towns. Tours collect together subject-specific \u201cstories\u201d related by common themes; the current set includes \u201c<strong>Robert Allerton Park<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>Urbana Park District<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>Railways and Electric Transit<\/strong>,\u201d and \u201c<strong>Public Art League<\/strong>,\u201d for instance. The <strong>MF\/CUZine<\/strong> story resides under <a title=\"&quot;C-U At the Movies!&quot; tour :: Explore C-U\" href=\"http:\/\/www.explorecu.org\/tour-builder\/tours\/show\/id\/8#.Ucp4JsEo6po\" target=\"_blank\">\u201c<strong>C-U At the Movies!<\/strong>\u201d<\/a> with good company: <strong>Roger Ebert<\/strong>, &#8220;<strong>Ebertfest<\/strong>,&#8221; the silent film star <strong>Virginia Sale<\/strong>, the UI electrical engineering pioneer <strong>Joseph Tykociner<\/strong>, and the lost C-U featurette <strong>THE CITY BEYOND<\/strong>. In our humble estimation, it is an effort which seeks to find that happy medium between aggregated wikis and edited compilations <em>a la<\/em> journals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the coming weeks, <strong>CUBlog<\/strong> will be helping the Explore C-U folks shore up our page \u2013 to their credit, we found the summation of our history relatively accurate \u2013 as well as brainstorm and implement logical ways to fit local movie culture better in the tour\/story conceit. Casual browsing of the companion tours will reveal how heavily they rely on public monuments and structures for cohesion.
