We take a rare detour from the movies of <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond to briefly discuss a television special airing on <strong>Syfy<\/strong> tomorrow, <strong>Tuesday, March 4<\/strong>, at <strong>9 p.m. CST<\/strong>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a title=\"CARVERS :: Syfy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.syfy.com\/carvers\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>CARVERS<\/strong> is a \u201cSyfy First\u201d presentation<\/span><\/a><\/span> depicting the unique exploits of <strong>Arizona<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Villafane Studios<\/strong>; their artisans sculpt elaborate and detailed characters and monsters on unusual materials, often in spectacular \u201creal time\u201d fashion at public events. Signature canvases are pumpkins and sand, as pictured on <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a title=\"Villafane Studios :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.villafanestudios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">the company\u2019s Web site<\/span><\/a><\/span>, although every imaginable surface from chocolate to cheese can become works of art under their watch. Syfy has not uploaded any preview clips we can find although <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a title=\"CARVERS video preview :: Syfy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.syfy.com\/videos\/Syfy%20Firsts\/Promos%20&amp;%20Trailers\/vid:2752022\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">they offer this teaser<\/span><\/a><\/span> with an appearance by <strong>McKenzie Westmore<\/strong>, the host of <strong>CARVERS<\/strong> lead-in <strong>FACE OFF<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While the program does not have any specific relationship with our region, Villafane lead carver and business partner <strong>Andy Bergholtz<\/strong> hails from <strong>St. Louis, Missouri,<\/strong> as does his <strong>CARVERS<\/strong> producer and show developer <strong>Scott Jenkins<\/strong>. It so happens Jenkins attended <strong>Millikin University<\/strong> in <strong>Decatur<\/strong> during the mid-Nineties at the same time <strong>CUBlog<\/strong> Webmaster <strong>Eric Pankoke<\/strong> was finishing his undergraduate degree there. Inevitably, he and your editor met and became friends. Jenkins worked as a designer for the <strong>Trendmasters<\/strong> toy company after completing his Millikin studies and then joined the <strong>Zipatoni<\/strong> national marketing firm.
