You can\u2019t wait to get your <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> fix? Why not tide yourself over by revisiting a winning set of local film favorites \u2013 including one <em>hot<\/em> project playing its first public show in Champaign-Urbana \u2013 with an engaged audience and impassioned hosts this weekend!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Dr. David Gracon<\/strong>, the <strong>Eastern Illinois University<\/strong> professor in <strong>Communications<\/strong> who organized<a title=\"EIU symposium lets it ZINED! :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=7136\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> the recent <strong>\u201cCut &amp; Paste\u201d Zine Symposium<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and <strong>Jason Pankoke<\/strong>, your humble editor and game \u201cC&amp;P\u201d participant, team up to talk indigenous cinema tomorrow, <strong>Saturday, March 22<\/strong>, at the <strong>University of Illinois&#8217; <a title=\"Figure One, UIUC :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.figureone.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Figure One<\/span><\/a><\/strong><a title=\"Figure One, UIUC :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.figureone.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> art gallery<\/span><\/a>, <strong>116 N. Walnut St.<\/strong>, downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong>. The show is a featured event of \u201c<strong>Social Habitat: The Porch Project<\/strong>,\u201d curated by Figure One faculty coordinator <a title=\"Rehema C. Barber @ Linkedin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/rehema-c-barber\/16\/8\/7a7\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Rehema C. Barber<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and designed by <strong>Brooklyn, New York<\/strong>, environment artist <a title=\"The Porch Project :: Heather Hart\" href=\"http:\/\/heather-hart.com\/The-Porch-Project\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Heather Hart<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. Essentially a raised wood floor with crawlspace emulating the open-air gathering places often found on the front or back of houses, Hart\u2019s Porch is an installation piece occupying most of the square footage at Figure One that provides a platform, of sorts, for myriad events exploring themes of reclamation and transformation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Saturday event will have three distinct segments. At <strong>2 p.m.<\/strong>, Barber will introduce a local shorts program including two directed by <strong>Thomas Nicol<\/strong>, <strong>A BEAR IN THE WOODS<\/strong> and <strong>BEDTIME FOR TIMMY<\/strong>, several culled from last year\u2019s <strong>Pens to Lens<\/strong> set such as <strong>FLUFFYSTEIN, SUPER DUPER LOW, INTO THE MINE, THE DEVIL USES PURELL, EVEN AND ODD<\/strong>, and <strong>UNEXPECTED TRIP<\/strong>, and the lively hot sauce documentary <strong>SRIRACHA<\/strong> created by <strong>Bloomington<\/strong> filmmaker <strong>Griffin Hammond<\/strong>. At <strong>4 p.m.<\/strong>, Pankoke and Gracon will join Barber in discussion about these works and the bigger picture of independent film culture in the C-U. To conclude, Figure One will screen the <strong>Danville<\/strong>-made feature <strong>HOUSE OF THADDEUS<\/strong> at <strong>6 p.m.<\/strong>, possibly followed by an informal talkback with attending cast and crew members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We hope to see many of you pop a squat on the Porch and participate, especially if not working on the sets of <strong>THE GARDEN OF CHLOE<\/strong> or <strong>THE THINKING MOLECULES OF TITAN<\/strong>. It is a good opportunity to see the Figure One space while encouraging Barber and her student organizers, by our collective presence, to schedule more showcases in the near future.
