Two men, weapons drawn, all bets are off. Who will be the stronger &#8230; <em>and who will survive?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In fairness, when it comes to movies in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>\u00a0the week of <strong>April 20<\/strong>, the guy with the famous thumb will probably lay a single-finger smackdown on these do-gooders and any other attention-seeker in sight. But that&#8217;s why <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> is here, folks, to pull up the underdogs by their bootstraps!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While everybody is huddling in perfect harmony\u00a0over at the <strong>Virginia Theatre<\/strong> for <strong>Roger Ebert&#8217;s Film Festival<\/strong>, a very rare occurence will be taking place &#8211; the video release of two local movies in the same week. Now, we&#8217;ll have to stick an asterisk on <strong>RAMPAGE<\/strong> since it was originally made in <strong>Turkey<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=716\" target=\"_self\">C-U&#8217;s own <strong>Dark Maze Studios<\/strong> providing a much belated English-language post-production job<\/a> to ready it for the West. The <em>legitimate<\/em> local film actually comes out a few days earlier on <strong>Tuesday, April 21<\/strong>, when <a title=\"THE SHOWDOWN @ North American Motion Pictures\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northamericanmotionpictures.com\/Showdown\/Showdown.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>North American Motion Pictures<\/strong> of <strong>Woodland Hills, CA<\/strong>, releases <strong>THE SHOWDOWN<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Formerly titled <strong>SAND PRAIRIE<\/strong>, this pet project of <strong>Springfield<\/strong>\/<strong>Pekin<\/strong> author <strong>Jim Conover<\/strong> is billed as &#8220;a classic Western&#8221; and follows the adventures of square-jawed Luke Canfield (<strong>Bob Handegan<\/strong>) as he takes up marshall status in a Texas frontier town and must dole out 19th Century-style justice on a gang of horse thieves. Impressively, the production marshalled enough coin to build a Sand Prairie set from scratch in little <strong>Hopedale Township<\/strong> near the <strong>Mackinaw River<\/strong>; you can find several photos of it at <a title=\"SAND PRAIRIE :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sandprairiemovie.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">the official Web site<\/a> as well as <a title=\"SAND PRAIRIE production history @ CostaNostraFilms.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cosanostrafilms.com\/wst_page9.php\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a> on <strong>Randy Wheat&#8217;s Imagemakers<\/strong> site.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CUBlog<\/strong> will bring you more information about <strong>THE SHOWDOWN<\/strong> as we get it (and Conover and North American decide to respond to our e-mail queries) so for now, dig on the original trailer below.
