Good weekend, adventurous fans of the films made in Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond! Little more than a week from now, C-U Confidential<\/strong> and friends will be enjoying the fifth annual New Art Film Festival<\/strong> at the Art Theater Co-op<\/strong> in downtown Champaign, Illinois. Plan to make merry with our movie mavens on Sunday, April 13<\/strong>, from 5 p.m.<\/strong> to approximately Midnight<\/strong>, during which the NAFF will present almost 30 short films and the feature-length political dramedy, THE DRUNK<\/strong>. Please vote \u201cyes\u201d to experiencing and<\/em> supporting our vital C-U cinema culture on the big screen!<\/p>\n

NO FOOLING! NEW ART FILM FESTIVAL BRINGS FIFTH COLLECTION OF LOCAL CINEMA TO THE ART!<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Champaign, Illinois) April 2, 2014:<\/strong> The day of the week has changed, but our mission to present the best in locally made cinema remains the same! The Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> community is invited to converge at the Art Theater Co-op<\/span><\/a>, 126 W. Church St., Champaign, IL<\/strong>, for the fifth annual New Art Film Festival<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (NAFF), taking place alongside the Boneyard Arts Festival<\/strong> organized by the 40 North 88 West arts<\/strong> council of Champaign County<\/strong>! Festival director Jason Pankoke<\/strong> will guide audiences through four programs, comprised of more than 20 films, in this annual celebration of independent cinema. The NAFF, presented by C-U Confidential<\/strong> and co-sponsored by ThirdSide<\/span><\/a>, Shatterglass Studios<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, and Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, is set to begin at 5 p.m.<\/strong> on Sunday, April 13<\/strong>, and wrap just before Midnight<\/strong>. As always, admission will<\/em> be free!<\/p>\n

Highlights of the 2014 NAFF schedule include:<\/em><\/p>\n

THE DRUNK<\/strong> \u2013 Our feature presentation this year<\/span><\/a> is a drama with comedic overtones produced by Tanoos Fleschner Pictures<\/strong> of Los Angeles<\/strong> and filmed on location in Terre Haute, Indiana<\/strong>, with an assist from Champaign\u2019s own Shatterglass Studios<\/strong>. This fictional tale concerns the battle of wills between Joe Debs (William Tanoos<\/strong>), the grandson of real-life Indiana<\/strong> radical labor leader Eugene V. Debs<\/strong>, and Bruce Frye (Tom Sizemore<\/strong>), a prosecutor who considers the younger Debs a drunkard and persistent menace to society.<\/p>\n

SRIRACHA<\/strong> \u2013 Film-loving foodies will salivate over this unique half-hour piece<\/span><\/a> by Bloomington, Illinois<\/strong>, producer and prolific Vidblog host Griffin Hammond<\/strong>! It examines the history and appeal of the curious hot sauce made famous in the United States by David Tran<\/strong> and Huy Fong Foods<\/strong> of California<\/strong>, eschewing traditional publicity for good old fashioned word-of-mouth.<\/p>\n

THE ART OF PULLING<\/strong> \u2013 This beautiful, dreamlike music video set to the song by Elsinore<\/strong><\/span><\/a> was produced by Chris & Oliver Cinema<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a.k.a. Christopher Sotelo<\/strong> and Oliver Peng<\/strong>, of Champaign. The NAFF will play five music videos total in its fifth edition, our highest number yet!<\/p>\n

THE HOBO<\/strong> & THE STORY OF FLOYD CRIMSON<\/strong> \u2013 Andy Due<\/strong> and Dustin Tylman<\/strong> of Charleston<\/strong><\/span><\/a> return to the NAFF with two dryly humorous shorts. In HOBO<\/strong>, Due channels the whimsy of silent film performers. In FLOYD CRIMSON<\/strong>, Due gives peace a chance but is done in by a numbers game.<\/p>\n

DEADLY EMBRACE<\/strong> \u2013 Former C-U resident Alaric Rocha<\/strong> directed this lush film noir<\/em><\/span><\/a> in his current home, Chicago<\/strong>. A nebbish named Robert (Don Markus<\/strong>) encounters a fiery-tempered tango dancer named Elena (Elisa Dei<\/strong>) in an alley behind a high society club.<\/p>\n
