In addition to tonight’s airing of local documentary\u00a0AN UPHILL CLIMB<\/strong>, PBS affiliate WILL-TV channel 12<\/strong> continues its support of indigenous filmmaking later this week with “Home Movie Day,”<\/strong> an on-site event at which area residents can have their own amateur movies cleaned by film preservationists and projected for an audience.<\/p>\n

The WILL-TV studios will serve\u00a0as one of approximately 50 sites in the United States to host “Home Movie Day”<\/strong> on Saturday, August 12<\/strong>. Residents wishing to have their films\u00a0presented at the event should drop them off by Friday, August 11<\/strong>, at WILL-TV, Campbell Hall for Public Telecommunication, 300 N. Goodwin, Urbana, IL<\/strong>, on the University of Illinois campus. Those\u00a0just interested in receiving advice on caring for their 8mm, Super 8, and\u00a016mm movies can simply bring them along on Saturday. The event is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m.<\/strong>, and admission is free to the public.<\/p>\n

The local “Home Movie Day”<\/a> is sponsored by WILL AM-FM-TV in partnership with the University of Illinois Library<\/strong>. The national “Home Movie Day”<\/a> is coordinated by the non-profit Center for Home Movies<\/strong> of Los Angeles, CA, founded by professional film archivists Snowden Becker<\/strong>, Brian Graney<\/strong>, Chad Hunter<\/strong>, Dwight Swanson<\/strong>, and Katie Trainor<\/strong> in 2005 as an institution through which the legacy of amateur filmmaking can be preserved.<\/p>\n
