Even though we at the Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters <\/strong>have an arguable problem sometimes with imposing and upholding deadlines, it doesn\u2019t mean that you <\/em>should befall the same fate, dear media-makers. As a test of your mettle, we\u2019ve compiled a handful of relevant due dates coming up in the near future for events and contests that you might find of interest, especially in a promotional capacity:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Monday, June 15<\/strong>: Submission deadline for the 16th annual Chicago Underground Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, to be held this year at the Gene Siskel Film Center<\/strong> in the Art Institute of Chicago<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Monday, June 15<\/strong>: Entry deadline for \u201cPublic Transportation Rocks!<\/strong>\u201d sponsored by Virginia<\/strong>-based Innovations in Transportation<\/strong><\/a>; films of two- to three-minutes long should feature the company\u2019s products in action, which locally would involve our very own C-U MTD<\/strong>; winners screen in Virginia Beach <\/strong>with cash prizes up to $1,000<\/p>\n

\u2022 Tuesday, June 16<\/strong>: Submission deadline for the 18th annual Heartland Film Festival<\/strong> in Indianapolis<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u2022 Monday, June 22<\/strong>: Deadline to enter your work in the 2nd annual\u00a0Naperville (IL)\u00a0Independent Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u2022 Tuesday, June 30<\/strong>: Entry deadline for the 5th annual Illinois International Film Festival <\/strong>in St. Charles<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u2022 Friday, July 31<\/strong>: Submission deadline for the 2nd annual \u201cShortcuts<\/strong>\u201d contest sponsored by the Illinois Film Office <\/strong>and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity<\/strong><\/a>; short film entries should be made in the Land of Lincoln; winner will screen at this fall\u2019s Chicago International Film Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Tuesday, September 1<\/strong>: Deadline for the brand-new Elgin (IL) Short Film Festival<\/strong><\/a>, as unearthed by C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> agent The Voice<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 We\u2019ll also throw down mention of the 18th annual\u00a0St. Louis International Film Festival<\/a><\/strong>, for which their Web site does not actually list the submission deadline (?!?) although entrants will be notified by September 15<\/strong> as to whether or not they made it. It\u2019s probably safe to go by whatever Withoutabox <\/strong>tells you.<\/p>\n

All of these events (and probably more that aren\u2019t on our radar at the moment) play up locally- or regionally-made entrants, so don\u2019t be hesitant to look closer than Los Angeles<\/strong>, New York<\/strong>, or Toronto <\/strong>for potential options that could expose your work to people beyond the home crowd.<\/p>\n
