100 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 Monday, October 19, 1914:<\/em> Owners of the brand-new New Orpheum Theatre<\/strong> in downtown Champaign<\/strong> open for business according to the Urbana Courier-Herald<\/strong><\/span>; entertainment scheduled for 7:30 and 9 p.m. shows includes \u201cfive high-class vaudeville acts,\u201d an \u201cenlarged orchestra,\u201d and \u201cspecial exclusive photo plays\u201d per a news item and advertisement in that day\u2019s edition. Designed by the Chicago<\/strong> architectural firm of Rapp & Rapp<\/strong> after the Royal Opera<\/strong> theater within the Palace of Versailles<\/strong> in Versailles, France<\/strong>, the building now houses the Orpheum Children\u2019s Science Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
