Sixth St., Springfield, IL<\/strong>, on <strong>Saturday, September 16, 1 p.m.<\/strong>,\u00a0and <strong>Sunday, September 17, 12 p.m.<\/strong> Conceived as a showcase of independent work featuring literal and figurative journeys as prominent themes, this event runs parallel with the\u00a0state capital&#8217;s\u00a0annual celebration of the legendary Mother Road. Admission for individual programs will be $5 while a festival pass runs $25; complete listings of film capsules and filmmaker bios can be <a title=\"Route 66 Film Festival :: 2006 Schedule\" href=\"http:\/\/www.route66filmfestival.org\/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=39\" target=\"_blank\">found right here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Next weekend, <strong>Eastern Illinois University<\/strong> in <strong>Charleston, IL<\/strong>,\u00a0steps up with its second annual <strong>Embarras Valley Film Festival<\/strong>, which presents the film work of an EIU alumnus. Unlike last year&#8217;s honoree, the B-film character actor <strong>William Phipps<\/strong> (<strong>INVADERS FROM MARS &#8217;53<\/strong>), this year&#8217;s marquee name should be relatively familiar with filmgoers from his acting credits\u00a0and\u00a0voice-over work\u00a0&#8211; <strong>Burl Ives<\/strong> (1909-1995). Running from <strong>September 20<\/strong> to <strong>September 23<\/strong>, Embarras Valley will offer numerous presentations regarding Ives&#8217; lengthy, multi-faceted career as well as screenings of four classics: <strong>DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS<\/strong> (1958, 9\/20), <strong>EAST OF EDEN<\/strong> (1955, 9\/21), <strong>THE BIG COUNTRY<\/strong> (1959, 9\/23), and <strong>CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF<\/strong> (1958, 9\/23). <a title=\"Embarras Valley Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/its.eiu.edu\/evfilm\/\" target=\"_blank\">Skim this blog<\/a> for times and locations of all related events.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">One week later, <strong>Boardman&#8217;s Art Theatre<\/strong> in downtown <strong>Champaign, IL<\/strong>,\u00a0welcomes the fourth annual <strong>Asian Film Festival<\/strong>, organized by the <strong>Asian Educational Media Service<\/strong> (AEMS)\u00a0of the\u00a0<strong>Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign<\/strong>. Attempting to bridge cultural gaps through cinema, AEMS chooses its selections from\u00a0the contemporary output of a\u00a0specific country or region &#8211; such as Japan and Hong Kong in prior festivals\u00a0&#8211; with this year devoted to South Korea. On <strong>Friday, September 29<\/strong>, at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, director <strong>Yoon Jong-Bin<\/strong> will introduce and discuss his film, <strong>THE UNFORGIVEN<\/strong> (2005), while four additional features play on <strong>Saturday, September 30<\/strong>, beginning at <strong>2 p.m.<\/strong>: <strong>EMPRESS CHUNG<\/strong> (2005), <strong>PLEASE TEACH ME ENGLISH<\/strong> (2003), <strong>SAD MOVIE<\/strong> (2005), and <strong>SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE<\/strong> (2005), <strong>Park Chan-wook<\/strong>&#8216;s follow-up to <strong>OLDBOY<\/strong>.
