Confidential practitioners! This week is a very good week for us to let our newest \u201cImage of the Week<\/strong>\u201d do the talking on behalf of our film and video brethren. (Don\u2019t worry, your humble editor will throw down pontifications aplenty beginning next<\/em> week in regards to C-U Confdential #8<\/strong> and #9<\/strong>, the New Art Film Festival<\/strong>, and other choice topics.) WILL-TV<\/strong> at the University of Illinois<\/strong> has just released a new artist profile series<\/span><\/a> called ART: BEHIND THE SCENES<\/strong>, produced by Tim Meyers<\/strong> with photography and editing assistance from Issac Musgrave<\/strong>, which is now available on YouTube<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and set to appear on the PBS<\/strong> affiliate. Running approximately three minutes each, the slickly-produced vignettes introduce viewers to individuals who create significant work as Champaign County<\/strong> residents. Three of these first eight are devoted to very familiar faces:\u00a0Nina Paley<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the alternative cartoonist and SITA SINGS THE BLUES<\/strong> filmmaker, Thomas Nicol<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the stop-motion animator and Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong> director, and Deke Weaver<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a UIUC associate professor in the School of Art and Design<\/strong> and the performance artist behind the \u201cUnreliable Bestiary<\/strong>\u201d multimedia experiences.<\/p>\n

Season One of ART\/BTS<\/strong>, also including musicians Ryan Groff<\/strong> and T.R.U.T.H.<\/strong>, fiber artist Ann Coddington Rast<\/strong>, painter Langston Allston<\/strong>, and tattoo artist Ainslie Heilich<\/strong>, was produced by WILL\/Illinois Public Media<\/strong> in partnership with 40 North 88 West<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and is partially supported by an Illinois Arts Council<\/strong> grant. This project seems to be a successor to the \u201cArtists at Work Video Series<\/span><\/a>\u201d made last year by 40 North\u2019s programs and events coordinator, Amanda Baker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
