We should begin, speaking of \u201csuper late,\u201d by wishing well that portion of our <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong><\/span> population who forced themselves to stay awake through overnight Thursday so they could participate in \u201cForce Friday,\u201d <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Star Wars\u2019 fans pounce on Force Friday, snap up new toys :: The Washington Post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/economy\/disney-kicks-off-star-wars-bonanza-with-force-friday\/2015\/09\/04\/ff3ea6fc-5244-11e5-9812-92d5948a40f8_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">a shopping event orchestrated by <strong>Lucasfilm<\/strong>, <strong>Disney<\/strong>, licensors, and retailers<\/a><\/span> to make an instant mint off the nationwide debut of <strong>STAR WARS<\/strong> collectibles. Coincidentally, we slumbered peacefully through those very same wee hours at the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong> with visions of classic Eighties action figure commercials dancing in our heads. They somewhat resembled the mash-up madness of <strong>Kontraband<\/strong>\u2019s kick-ass toy line, \u201c<strong>Robot Cop<\/strong>,\u201d as seen in the spot embedded below. What, you <em>don\u2019t<\/em> remember \u201cRobot Cop,\u201d fellow middle agers? We can thank Champaign illustrator <strong>Matt Wiley<\/strong>, a staff media artist at <strong>Taylor Studios<\/strong> in <strong>Rantoul<\/strong> and contributing poster and title designer for <strong>Pens to Lens<\/strong>, who <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"ROBOT COP :: Matt Wiley Art\" href=\"http:\/\/mattwileyart.com\/robotcop\/\" target=\"_blank\">invented this retro sales nugget on a whim.<\/a><\/span> \u201cStarring\u201d the T-800 from <strong>THE TERMINATOR<\/strong> and bounty hunter Bossk from <strong>THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK<\/strong> who battle over real-world precious cargo \u2013 in this case, their young humans\u2019 <strong>SunnyD<\/strong>(<strong>elight<\/strong>) orange drink \u2013 <strong>ROBOT COP<\/strong> features hand acting by Taylor colleagues <strong>Jason Thorn<\/strong> and <strong>Jordan Bidner<\/strong>, voice work by P2L cohorts <strong>Matt Shivers, Justin Klett<\/strong>, and <strong>Breelyn Mehrtens<\/strong>, and Wiley performing his best \u201clazy <em>a capella<\/em>\u201d <strong>Basil Poledouris<\/strong>. Just as entertaining is the <strong>ROBOT COP<\/strong> how-to video if that saved-to-VHS, <strong>Reagan<\/strong>-era aesthetic is your bag, and it also appears here for perusal and study. Pretty rad!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">~ Jason Pankoke<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.<\/em> We sincerely beg Wiley to make one more toy <em>faux<\/em>-mercial for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"KUNG FURY :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kungfury.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Eighties sci-fi epic that never was until about four months ago<\/a><\/span>, <strong>KUNG FURY<\/strong>, if for no other reason than to be gloriously more meta than meta. Besides, he may not be a robot but he is <em>most definitely<\/em> a cop and he\u2019s damn good at his job.
