Zion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We\u2019ve seen the signs, dearest readers \u2013 that tell-tale chill in the air, those foreign hues tinting the leaves, the whispers of dead men\u2019s (and women\u2019s) parties wafting in one&#8217;s ears, and all manner of horrific entertainment options about to break loose in <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cemeteries beyond. In other words, welcome to October! Please consult <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Calendar du C-U: October 9-15 :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=9402\" target=\"_blank\">our weekly <strong>Calendar<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to know which freaky films will flicker where in the weeks ahead; even though our post-<strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> daze has finally broken, we\u2019ll have no ghost of a chance to preview all the seasonal goodness out there before month\u2019s end. <em>Ack!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">That bemoaned, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong><\/span> <em>will<\/em> dip into the dark side of local film culture as we pick a few offbeat paths for you to ponder. The most immediate item on our radar is a second-year event called \u201c<strong>The Art of Fear<\/strong>,\u201d to be held from <strong>9 a.m.<\/strong> to<strong> 6 p.m.<\/strong> today, <strong>Saturday, October 10<\/strong>, at the <strong>Heroic Age Art Center, 135 S. Henderson St., Mt. Zion, IL<\/strong>, just a few miles southeast of <strong>Decatur<\/strong>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Heroic Age Art Center :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/haartcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">A renovated school building that now serves as studio space<\/a><\/span> for both fine artists and media production firm <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Heroic Age Studios :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/heroicagestudios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heroic Age Studios<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the Center will welcome guests all day for \u201ca <strong>Halloween<\/strong>-themed art show, art activities in our shops, celebrity guests, vendors, pumpkin carving contest, costuming, and panel discussions\u201d <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Art of Fear :: Heroic Age Art Center\" href=\"http:\/\/heroicageevents.wix.com\/artoffear\" target=\"_blank\">per the event page<\/a><\/span>. That last order of business is what may interest local film folk the most; subjects will include: Heroic Age creative director <strong>Eric Hector<\/strong> and production manager <strong>Tim Lynn<\/strong> on their <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Frightful 5000 Films :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.frightful5000films.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u201c<strong>Frightful 5000 Films<\/strong>\u201d campaign<\/a><\/span> (<strong>11 a.m.<\/strong>), monster actor <strong>Michael Koske<\/strong> of <strong>THE WALKING DEAD<\/strong> and <strong>GOOSEBUMPS<\/strong> (<strong>12:30 p.m.<\/strong>), creature make-up artist <strong>J. Anthony Kosar<\/strong> of the<strong> FACE OFF<\/strong> competition series (<strong>2 p.m.<\/strong>), and a screening of the <strong>Kentucky<\/strong>-filmed anthology <strong>VOLUMES OF BLOOD<\/strong>, hosted by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Horror-Fix.com<\/strong><\/span> editor <strong>Ash Hamilton<\/strong> and featuring several of the film\u2019s directors (<strong>3:30 p.m.<\/strong>). Admission will be free to the public for this unique community outreach from Heroic Age, founded more than 20 years ago to provide digitization and colorization for comic book publishers. The company would eventually expand to offer other services, including media production, to a larger client pool; they have since created numerous award-winning commercials and industrials as well as manned grip trucks on the sets of Midwest narrative feature films.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_FaH5BbRfzY?showinfo=0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our \u201c<strong>Image of the Week<\/strong>\u201d is a pitch video for the \u201cFrightful 5000 Films\u201d concept. Supporters more or less become honorary producers for a $60 investment in the proposed \u201cGothic fairy tale,\u201d per Hector, receiving a voice in selecting choice aspects (title, casting, etc.) of the project, behind-the-scenes access during filming, and an invitation to attend its premiere, among other perks. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Fanatical 5000 Films :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fanatical5000films.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">A separate but similar campaign<\/a><\/span> for \u201c<strong>Fanatical 5000 Films<\/strong>,\u201d in support of a \u201csupernatural romance\u201d story, more directly hypes the ideal of attracting business to downstate <strong>Illinois<\/strong> through film production along with building a sense of pride that the area \u2013 well, Mt. Zion\/Decatur, at the least \u2013 can represent well up on the big screen. Either way, the film can move forward once Heroic Age finds 5,000 individuals to invest in their vision.
