10 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 Saturday, February 25, 2006:<\/em> Opteryx Press<\/strong> of Champaign<\/strong> launches C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong>, an Internet adaptation of the \u201cC-U Confidential<\/strong>\u201d section from their flagship journal MICRO-FILM<\/strong>. In the first entry<\/a><\/span>, dated 8:57 p.m.<\/strong>, editor Jason Pankoke<\/strong> describes an intention of \u201c[making] a minor splash creating a community history through cinema, one that we can definitely call our own,\u201d with the forum as its potential epicenter. CUBlog<\/strong><\/span> has published local film-related content every single month since then.<\/p>\n

FLICKER OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on the pieces we\u2019ve run the past few days at CUBlog<\/strong><\/span>, we\u2019re tailoring our first small-scale \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d along two specific lines. First, it\u2019s a rarity in the C-U when lovers of vintage B-cinema can enjoy their poison in public, either at the Virginia Theatre<\/strong> in Champaign<\/strong> this Sat., 2\/27<\/strong>, at 1<\/strong> or 7 p.m.<\/strong> with the classic Shakespeare<\/strong>-in-space adaptation FORBIDDEN PLANET<\/strong> (1956) or the UI Foellinger Auditorium<\/strong> in Urbana<\/strong>, also on Sat.<\/strong> at 7 p.m.<\/strong>, with the \u201cexploding arthropod\u201d double bill of BUG<\/strong> (1975) and LAVALANTULA<\/strong> (2015) during the Insect Fear Film Festival<\/strong>. Second, please note the list of locally-made media immediately following this paragraph and consider checking out one of them at the least. We would have never bothered with this non-stop Confidential<\/strong> business if supporting our local artists was not a primary goal. Make it yours as well!<\/p>\n
