Some will be left in the pixelated dust while others are deemed worthy of a second look. Our tuneful \u201c<strong>Images of the Week<\/strong>\u201d is inspired by the latter thought as we revive an \u201c<strong>IOW<\/strong>\u201d subset \u2013 music videos \u2013 <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"IOW: A Myriad Musical Tour, Pt.1 :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=8840\" target=\"_blank\">last examined a year ago<\/a><\/span>. The common denominator for today is Urbana\u2019s <strong>John Isberg<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Where It Begins: A Conversation With John Isberg :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"http:\/\/readbuzz.com\/music\/2016\/where-it-begins-a-conversation-with-john-isberg\/\" target=\"_blank\">interviewed last week<\/a><\/span> by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Buzz magazine<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"IOW: GHOST musters Kucha nod :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=9049\" target=\"_blank\">introduced on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CUBlog<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> a while back, who has turned out a good number of local artist videos as <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Swede Films @ Tumblr\" href=\"http:\/\/swedefilms.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swede Films<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Isberg is also undertaking a feature documentary on our music scene\u2019s recent history, <strong>WHERE IT BEGINS<\/strong>, in addition to a full-length portrait of a paranormal investigator, <strong>THE GHOST COWBOY<\/strong>. We can&#8217;t help but admire his energy and self-motivation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Below <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CUBlog<\/strong><\/span> shares three Swede samplings. The first is an evocative video for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Elsinore :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elsinoremusic.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Elsinore<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2019s \u201c<strong>The Great Communicator<\/strong>,\u201d released as a digital single in October. Inky shadows and muted color tones nod to the likes of <strong>David Fincher<\/strong> and <strong>David Lynch<\/strong> in this scenario, shot in the <strong>Rantoul<\/strong> area with <strong>Chad Olson, Charlie Kessler, Iman Sharabash<\/strong>, and <strong>Frank Engel<\/strong> as crew. Elsinore lead singer <strong>Ryan Groff<\/strong> plays a protagonist whose conscience is haunted by an ill-fated acquaintance, embodied by <strong>Chicago<\/strong> actress and model <strong>Emily Bennett<\/strong>, while being lulled by a rather lost-looking highway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/143449602?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/143449602\">Elsinore &#8211; The Great Communicator<\/a><\/span> from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/user31047464\">Swede Films<\/a><\/span> on <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Next is an intimate video shot by Isberg in a back room of the <strong>Parasol Label Group<\/strong> building near downtown Urbana. In it, the second of a Swede \u201clive\u201d series, \u201c<strong>Watchtower<\/strong>\u201d is performed by <strong>We the Animals<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Kayla Brown, Mikael Brackett, Mark Wyman<\/strong>, and <strong>Joe Funderburk<\/strong> \u2013 with sound engineering and mixing provided by Elsinore\u2019s <strong>James Treichler<\/strong>. One should note the presence of string lighting as set dressing, a favorite visual device used by the filmmaker in all three pieces embedded here. The song hails from We the Animals\u2019 <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"We the Animals @ Bandcamp\" href=\"https:\/\/wetheanimalsmusic.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">demo EP released in 2014<\/a><\/span> through <strong>Bandcamp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/141243151?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/141243151\">We The Animals &#8211; Watchtower<\/a><\/span> from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/user31047464\">Swede Films<\/a><\/span> on <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Last and hop-ily not least, we arrive at the most bunny-ful clip all told! \u201c<strong>Great Lakes<\/strong>\u201d by <strong>Motes<\/strong> fills the soundscape with pop-fuzz bliss as a once-loved stuffed rabbit, relegated to a \u201cFREE\u201d box in a knick-knack shop, comes to life and hitches rides to the band\u2019s gig in the hope it can reunite with its human family. Although we will revisit this late-blooming videographer\u2019s adventures in due time, you will probably see plenty of fanfare elsewhere in our community as he progresses on <strong>WHERE IT BEGINS<\/strong>. Described as \u201cCU Music Documentary 1977-2000\u201d on <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"WHERE IT BEGINS @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Whereitbeginsdoc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, its time frame overlaps and extends beyond the eras recounted in <strong>INCIDENT AT KICKAPOO CREEK<\/strong> and <strong>OUT OF NOWHERE<\/strong> and is just as sorely needed as those prior films by <strong>R.C. Raycraft<\/strong> and <strong>Bob Zimmerman<\/strong>, respectively.
