MFHQ & YOU:
C-U Confidential no. 4 is Available for Download!

We finally settled on “C-U Confidential Revue” as the name for our new YouTube channel and should have more than 50 videos added to the playlists by this time next week, so head on over if you have yet to become a friend and subscriber! (Besides, we have to show off our snappy new color scheme and background design to someone…) Friends of our humble editor can also check out his personal Crimson Mole site; it doesn’t feature much substance at the moment but he pledges to bulk up during the cold winter months! Additionally, we added a complete lo-res PDF of C-U Confidential issue 4 here on C-U Blogfidential that you can download and share with friends and colleagues! If you must have the print version, watch this space closely as we’ll soon launch a special sale to help us clear much-needed floor space inside the Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters!

PRODUCTION

CUBlog caught up with University of Illinois alumnus and ONE FINE DAY! co-creator Derek Klein last week to get the final word on his guerilla hour-long feature experiment A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW, which quietly hit DVD via Amazon’s CreateSpace in May. “POV was mainly a reunion project for the OFD! crew and a challenge to ourselves,” says Klein, whose team shot the no-budget, reciprocal mystery-drama within six intensive days during the university’s Spring Break of 2009. “It was never really intended for the festival circuit, but it has given a lot of the cast and crew the marks on their resumes to start pursuing careers in acting,” he continues, “and as for myself, the small projects at UIUC are what allowed me to progress as fast as I have out here in Hollywood … that was the original goal of both OFD! and POV, simply to provide film and television making experience at a university that still really has no film program. I consider these projects a success.” Following the game plan of POV’s screenwriter character Ben Falls – minus the pornographic material – Klein has been actively developing serialized Web projects in the hopes that they will be produced commercially. “We’re actually pitching them to some networks so who knows, maybe you’ll be able to catch them on cable one of these days,” anticipates Klein. The DVD-R includes the full 63-minute movie, a commentary track by Klein and actor Connor Chambers, an alternate ending, a blooper reel, and the original trailer. Watch for additional POV tomorrow on CUBlog!

MEDIA LINKS

We received a note from University of Illinois and MICRO-FILM alumna Danielle Cloutier pointing out an interview with her conducted by Matt of TheWorkingActor.net. While the streaming video and text portions mostly address Dani’s efforts to learn her craft, land legit work, and retain a bit of sanity while living la vida Los Angeles, added value cuteness can be found in the preceding post filled with doggie photos taken at her day job, The Dog House. Closer to home, News-Gazette companion magazine Central Illinois Business offers a standard-issue profile of local filmmaker Robin Christian and Dreamscape Cinema in their September edition. Finally, we spread back out internationally thanks to your humble editor’s Ma JaPan, who discovered several (1, 2, 3, 4) of the “Playing for Change” music videos seen throughout Roger Ebert’s Film Festival in the spring.

OUTRO

The upcoming MICRO-FILM “fire sale” mentioned in the lead is not just intended to reduce stock at MFHQ. We will be making a concentrated effort through product and advertising specials in the next several months to make up ground on not-quite-paid bills. A major downfall of being a one-man “empire” is footing the bill on the difference from one’s own pocket if income doesn’t quite match up to expenditure. This is a big problem right now for your humble editor given the total demands placed on thinning income from personal costs of living and free-for-all projects like the MF and CU branded services you have enjoyed for more than a decade. Please consider setting aside some pre-holiday cash to invest in our product. We prefer to give you something in return for your moneys, such as back issues for the fans and advertising space for the producers, but at this point we are not too proud to point you to the Donate button hidden on this Page. Please offer all the positive nudges you can afford. Thank you!

That’s it for the “business of our scene” this week!
